I've opened this discussion in response to some terrific comments on a different topic. It's amazing how one discussion thread easily evolves to another!
This is one part of wedding vows that many couples do not understand, & wind up giving up on a marriage. Most people never have to be tested on the "For Worse" part, & it takes a special kind of person ~such as all of you here in this group~ to truly know what "For Better or For Worse" means.
I understood "it" instantly when my husband called me from the hospital in the next state over & told me his rig was hit by another truck. Our lives changed "For Worse" in the blink of an eye, & I am praying that someday a "For Better" will come. Maybe it will, maybe it won't.
All I can do is pray. And I pray for all members of this Group, too.

Ironic- as you said "the patient was taking care of the caregiver". I wonder how many people live their lives in your parents' situation & the rest of the world doesn't even know...
