Bullying Support Group
Bullying is the act of intentionally causing harm to others, through verbal harassment, physical assault, or other more subtle methods of coercion such as manipulation. Bullying can be defined in many different ways, but one thing is clear: no one deserves to be bullied. If you or someone you know is coping with bullying, this is the place to share your feelings and get...
All the feelings came to a head working with her on Sunday. I went home feeling like shit. Not knowing what to do with myself and feeling agitated. Evening news on tv was reporting about bullying at this high school near me 7 teens killed themselves over a period of 2 yrs because they were gay being bullied. Legal action was done. The school had to support no tolerance towards bulling.
The light bulb comes on and I decided to check out what bulllyilng entails. I seen my bully behavior on countless articles on the internet. Thank the high power................
So I am doing the research , connecting to my therapist and support from my recovery womens group. I believe their is a gift out of all this............. The buttons that are pushed is like I am sitting next to my father................which I have unfinish business with.
I 2Hearts, do promise to be nice
It can also lead to difficulties on the job. Can you keep a journal of her behaviors (dates, times, incidences)?
I agree that there are bullies everywhere and we need to learn how to deal with them. However, these people can do serious damage in the meantime and are oh so clever and manipulative.
I am sick over a situation at work, and tired of fighting for myself
while the bully rages on and is, as you say, covertly operating
in undermining me.
I imagine there are many adult suicides that can be attributed to
bullying.
We just aren't THERE yet, in society with this.
I don't see nurse managers getting involve. Nor do I want them to. They are just as dysfunctional. Its like being back in my family. The bottom line its my family dynamics in the work place. On some levels I have experience healing from my past......... For me their is a huge light at the end of the tunnel I can make it to June and move on to another phase in my life.
Like mamie, keep a detailed journal with date, time, incident, how you felt and witnesses. It's your strongest evidence.
I was fortunate that my bully called in sick. And I don't have to work with her til Thursday................
The good news I filled out papers for my retirement fund. I turn my termination on June 29, 2012. I will have a 25th yrs in the ER. I over stayed my time..........Usually my work record is 7 years. I came in the ER quietly and I am going out quietly. I refuse to have TEA and potluck lunch. I will call the people I care about leaving after the fact. Its always important for me to say good bye and to have a closure.
I have a severe anxiety disorder from my experience. Take care. I hope you are able to find a healthier work environment.
I read about office mobbing. Unfortunately I believe it occurs often.
I was fascinated by the mention of organizational splitting and the implication that there is usually a bully (or two or three or more)
at its root.
I work at an organization but at another organization and there is a third organization involved.
I can identify at least three characters who have various bully characteristics.
Within all of the organizations I can see these characters.
Now the innocent bystander in my experience is the one person who can make a huge difference in these situations but
they are often terrified to do so for fear that the bully will begin
to target them (especially if things have gone toxic agency wide).
During a family dispute a few summers ago, I stood up for
a family member who was clearly being targeted
and it made a difference. She works within schools
and pointed out that the bystander is often the person
who can make a difference.
One other comment: I find that I am often a target so I think
for me, I need to learn not to be that target and it may mean
drastic changes in my behaviors and attitudes.
Being nice, tolerant and friendly is often not good enough.
And being very sensitive is seen as weakness and a reason
to bully.
Taking steps to bully proof myself is not an exuse for others or for me to bully but it is a step to protect myself from repeating patterns of communication.
I believe that it will be decades before workplace bullying and toxicity is fully understood and addressed. It creates many psychological injuries and, at best, there should be
protocols to address this from the leaders of an organization.
But for now, I think understanding it, taking self care steps
and in the worst case scenario, leaving the job (not always easy)
are the best we can do
Hi, I won't go on about my 2.5yrs of being bullied in the work place. At first I thought it was because she was my trainer but then I realized she had 2 standards...those of her work friends and a different of standard for me, constant belittling me and isolating me by publicly humiliation by public reprimanding me....enough of that. I want to join or form a bully support group and act as an advocate. Does anybody know where I can turn to for this?
called Nasty People" Who to Beat then without becoming one.
It is a small red book jam backed with information on why this may be happening but also good advice on how to handle these sorts of
people.
I would highly recommend it because it doesn't focus on victimhood but rather on ways to understand, and tactfully assert yourself
in a way that is healthy, professional and effective.
