I breast fed my second and was going to stop when he was three, but then I had my third child and thought it would be a bad time to say hey you gotta stop so your brother can take over. I think what matters is not age, but when it's right for your child.

I nursed my first for 17 months, my second for 15 months, my third for 20 months, and this one...don't know yet, he's only 12 days old, but hopefully at least a year. I think it should be personal preference how long you breastfeed, but for me, my pediatrician says that in his native country, women breastfeed for at least 24 months and he says if you can stand it (he said with a chuckle) that is my recommendation.

my son is 8 months and I am still breastfeeding and i have no intention of stopping just yet. My son does have a habit now of gripping with his teeth and i'm geeting sore - anyone else experienced this?

i9i have recently just stopped breastfeeding my daughter is 9 months old. i breastfed exclusively until she was 6 months then i introduced solids and kept breastfeeding until she was abot 7 and a half months. i then stopped the day feeds and gave formula instead but kept her on breast through the night, these gradually changed to formula and now she is exclusively on formula. i only stopped as i was getting tired to much and was jealous of my husband getting a good night sleep when i was up every 2-3 hours

I breastfed my son for nine and half months with no formula until he was seven months working 40 hours a week. He is almost 10 months now and I had to stop because I am 10 weeks pregnant. I would have nursed longer if I wasn't working. Being pregnant, working and nursing is very hard work.

I'm all about self weaning. When the baby doesn't want it anymore, stop giving it. They say that most babies don't try to do this under a year. This way, you should never have to give your baby formula!

I have 4 kids. I breastfed the first until he was 2, the second until 13 months, the third until 10 months, and the last one until 17 months. For each of my kids the emotional need was different. You know when the time is right to wean. My earliest one was my only daughter who was so much more independent than her brothers. She was ready at 10 months.
