My oldest (3.3years) was breastfeed for 10-months. (until her teeth came in). I am trying to reach a goal of 1-year of nursing with my second. She is now 8months, and her bottom two teeth are coming in. My milk supply is getting low and I need some support getting to my goal.

I breastfed my first for one year - exclusively for 6 months then with solids as reccommended http://www.999reasons.com/kidshealth . She was very slow and took a long time to feed and was never interested in a bottle until then. My second is 11 months and I am still feeding him around 4 times a day - just so frustrating when he wakes for a feed during the night still and nothing else seems to console him. Trying other methods to settle but nothing working.

hmm Ive never breast fed personally but, my best friend has a 7 month old and she breast fed for 4-5 months, she would have done it longer but she couldnt produce enough to satify him, so she eventually switched to formula. my mom had 3 kids, she nursed us anywhere from 5-8 months, she said when we started to bite her it was time for a bottle or sippy cup. but then I know this one lady her daughter is 2 1/2 years old and she is still nursing her...so its all up to how long your body produces milk and whne you decide to stop.

I had my son in January of 2004 and I am still nursing at night before bed and a little in the morning. He is a great kid very independent, athletic and very smart but when it comes to the CHi CHi as he calls it he loves it as he puts it it makes him feel better. He doesn't bite and I just feel when he is ready to stop he will and when I absolutely can't do it anymore I won't, I think its good for him. My husband has no problem with it but it seems anyone else family or friends thinks it is terrible that I am nursing this long, its none of their business, thats what I think! LOL Don't stop nursing because everyone thinks its bad, do whats good for you!!!!!!!!

I have three boys. I bf the first one for 9 months when he decided he was done, mainly because he was too impatient to nurse to get my supply up. The second I bf for 23 months. Now I am nursing my third son who is 5 months old. I have learned so much since I nursed the first one though.

It is rare for a woman to loose her milk supply or not have enough milk. The problem is usually that she isn't getting enough support and proper info and thinks she doesn't have enough milk. Some babies won't nurse long enough to get a second or third letdown and it is hard to get your milk supply to increase with their needs in this instance. That is where having a good breast pump comes in handy. You can increase your supply in a couple of days just by pumping after each feeding.

As far as biting is concerned, you can teach your little one not to bite. You just put a finger in the corner of their mouth to break the suction and as doing so say sternly, "NO, you don't bite mommy." You do this *every* time they try to bite. After a few times, they realize they aren't going to get to nurse if they bite you. If you take them off and give them baby food or a bottle, they don't get the proper message and will continue to bite.

I just hate to see women give up breast feeding for lack of support or information. I think you should breast feed as long as it is a good thing for you and your child. It is definitely a very personal decision.

I breastfed my first son until he weaned himself at 8 months when he became more interested in crawling and cruising than nursing - I just couldn't get him to sit still and nurse anymore. I was also having problems with my supply from about 3 1/2 months on. I only breasfed my second son for about 2 weeks - he cried nonstop from the moment he was born for about 6 months. I couldn't take it. Thankfully he is now 5 and has been very healthy (more so than his brother) and is very smart.

I never even thought about breastfeeding my first son (now 14) and I tried with my second son (now 12), but I didn't have the support of my xH so I stopped trying almost immediately once I got home. My third son is now 2 months old and he had breast milk for the first month exclusively. He didn't latch on immediately so I pumped and bottle fed him in the hospital. I wasn't comfortable with the nurses grabbing my boob and forcing him to breast feed. So I pumped every 2 hours for 15 minutes each side. When I got home I continued to pump, but it was so exhausting for me. We are a blended family and had the other 6 kids in the house our first week home. So that added to my exhaustion and stress. I had a c-section and it was hard to move around. It seems like I was always in my room upstairs pumping. I didn't produce enough milk to keep up with him so we did supplement with formula. I felt like a bad mom because I couldn't produce enough milk. He did latch on around 4 weeks old, but my nipples got so sore and I felt bad and gave up. I wish I didn't give up so easily. :(

My 2 month old has been getting pumped breastmilk (75%) and formula (25%). I was a little sad that I was unable to nurse so I'm doing the next best thing. I just returned to work and will try to keep up with expressing milk for baby for as long as my supply is sufficient. Sometimes I feel like I've missed out on the experience of nursing but on the bright side, I get to sleep through the night when baby's grandma helps out with night feedings.

I am currently breastfeeding for the first time and am starting into my fourth month. I plan to breastfeed as much as possible until he is at least six months old. If I can, I will go until he is eight months old. However, I am in school to be an RN, so this is a little difficult, but I will give it my best shot!

Okay, I'll knock your socks off! I nursed from Nov 1990 to March 2007 except for two weeks. Yes for almost 17 years. I have 5 children and nursed all for almost 3 years and some for more than three years. My youngest was adopted and began nursing at 15 months old and nursed until she was a month shy of 4. Wouldn't change it for the world!

Enjoy them when they are little it goes by so fast!

My first daughter: Only a few days. We just couldn't get the hang of it.

and my baby boy: He is 17 months and still nursing.

Ive recently had a baby (june 12th) and i only managed to breastfeed him for about 10 days. I had trouble with him latching on and the midwives in hospital were great at helping. I mixed bottle and breast because i found it to painful with it not going well to start with i got really sore. In the end i wasnt producing enough, he needed a bottle within an hour of being on me for over half an hour so switched to bottle completely. It was the right choice for me.

I have breastfed four children and am still breatfeeding my 15 month old baby. I think that it is a personal choice within reason. The longest I have breatfed was two years...........for me I think thats long enough

each child got a 16 months a piece and I only stopped with the first one because I got pregnant and I actually stopped lactating. It was sad for both of us, second child I quit because I needed to take a medication that wouldn't allow me to breast feed. I had put it off long enough I figured 16 months was a good time to stop.

I breastfed my daughter for 3 years and she is finally giving it up. I have been trying to wean for a year. But with hthe stress of the divorce it just seemed impossible. My daughter is so smart, healthy and beautiful and I think breastmilk has a lot to do with it!
