I breastfed two of three kids. The first time I stopped at four months because I startded smoking again. I was told even if you smoke it's still better so this time my baby is five months and still partially breastfed. I supplement with formula because my milk did not increase with his demands!

I nursed my 5-year old until he was a little over a year. I'm currently nursing my daughter who is 4 months old. As long as you would be giving formula, I think a child should be breast-fed if possible. Around a year to a year and a half I start solid food and cow's milk instead of a bottle.

I breastfed my son for about 13 months. I think a reasonable length of time is about a year and a half. JMO though.

I was not able for various reasons to nurse my older girls, but with my youngest daughter I nursed her for 3 months, then too much stress, and not enough milk ended that. This time around although I do have to supplement with formula, partly due to 2 ICU stays at the hospital for me since my son was born, we are at 6 months this week, and I would like to continue thru a year. I think it's individual choice, although for me, if a child was old enough to ask that would not be a comfortable thing for me.

I breastfed my son exclusively until I started him on some solids at about 20 weeks old. At 6 months, I introduced bottles of formula as well continuing to breastfeed. Unfortunately he became a nasty biter once his teeth came through so I completely stopped at 8 months.

I'm really looking forward to breastfeeding my 2nd baby (4 months to go!) will probably feed him for about 6 - 8 months again.

I breastfed my first daughter exclusively for 6 months before I introduced solids. Then I continued to supplement her solids with breastmilk til she was 13 months. She never had a drop of formula.

My second daughter I breastfed for 8 months and then added formula to the rotation when I ran out of the stored breastmilk I had at about 10.5 months. I remember the formula as being not too inconvenient, not too expensive (my pediatrician would give my carloads of samples) but very smelly. Ugh.

I plan to breastfeed this one for at least 6 months.... hoping the schedules of my older children and my chauffeur driving responsibilities don't get in the way. But my husband is afraid since I know this will be my last chance, I may be breastfeeding her when she's 16!!

I breastfed my son for 13 months. He became mobile and didn't want to nurse anymore, so that was that! My daughter is still nursing and she'll be 2 in May. I think the cut off for her will be 2.5 yrs, only because I feel she and I will be ready for a little independence by then. I was actually surprised she still wants to nurse, but she's not a biter and eats very well so it's not hurting her solid food intake. I think its wonderful for your child to nurse as long as you can, as long as your both still comfortable doing so!

all total with four little ones I nursed a total of 9 years....I loved the closeness I felt and was always sad when they gave it up

I did not breastfeed my first which I will always regret.
I breastfed the next 2 till about 2.5 to 3 years when they both gave it up on their own. (no they were not twins they are all 5 years apart)
I believe everyone has to decide that on their own and it isn't someone elses business.
There are many reasons to continue as there are to stop.

I breastfed 3 out of 4 children the first time I stopped at 4 months because I went back to work and at the time didn't understand that you could do both. The second time I nursed for 18 months and now my baby is 3 months old and I hope to nurse until she weans herself.

I have nursed all of my children. The first boy for a little over a year. The second about 11 months, the thrid 11.5 months and my little girl so far 4 months and plan to nurse her until she is 12 months. It is so beneficial. I have had struggles with mastitis but have managed to keep on.

My oldest was only breastfed for 4 months and was supplemented with formula from the start, because she had problems latching. My youngest, who is 3 now, had only breastmilk until she was six months, and then started eating solids, we introduced whole milk at 12 months, from a cup, and she still nursed in the am, and bedtime and sometimes more, until she weaned herself at 17 months. She actually did have formula a couple times, once in the hospital because her blood sugar dropped while they were monitoring her breathing and a few times in the first week because she was jaudice and the ped recommended feeding formula after she nursed. I loved breastfeeding and think more moms would do it and enjoy it, if there was more support out there.

I breast fed both of mine to the ages of 9-14 months if i remember right.

my son nursed till he was 12 months, i was pregnant 2 weeks later. My daughter nursed till she was 13 months and I only weened her because I found out I'm pregnant with my son who is due in july. I think i'm going to nurse him till he's around 5 months. I will probably say that now and be nursing him till I find out I'm pregnant again though....

I breastfeed my first born or at least pumped for 5 weeks. I pumped for 15 months(almost exclusively) with the second and with the last I did have a baby at the breast nursing (losts of help that time)exclusively for 10 months. She went through a nursing strike at that time and I didn't realize what to do about it. I was planning on nursing her until 18 months ish. I really loved the nursing. Would love to get pregnant again, just to nurse another baby!!
