Words - when to say them and why

For some people saying the words "I love you" is close to impossible. They cannot say it because it means so much to them.

Others have no problem saying them because they believe that, at that moment, they love that person. The problem is that after the moment has passed, they already said they love him/her but something changed.

I heard once that there are many types of love and you can love two people (I am talking about passionate love here) and still be ok. Like a guy who loves his wife and also loves his lover.

How can this be?

Love should not be controlling but I see some situations where this is exactly the final goal.

"I love you so do as I say."

Sometimes if you say I love you too soon then you are throwing yourself into a situation where you have given the other person unfair expectations when perhaps you or they aren't really ready. They really are just three words in the English language but the meaning has gotten twisted and used and abused over the years. I imagine especially so for many on this board.

I often get told that the "love" my STBX has for me is "different" from the "love" she has for the other man. Meaning I'm like that old sweater she just can't get rid of and he's like the new, expensive Fossil watch that he bought her but won't last as long as the sweater.

You get what I am trying to say here, DadWithHope. These 3 words should be said with some thought, explored within feelings. This would avoid so much pain or just the disregard of emotion.
