Why do guys act so strangely?

Guys (especially)-
Why is it that you seem to take things "harder" in a broken relationship? If you have been divorced, how long does it take you to "get over" the hurt and start your life again? And why is it that most of the time you go after things that you know aren't "good" for you like "way younger" women who are nothing but trouble? Why can't you get into a relationship that will be good an nurturing for you in order to get thru the past hurt?
Please help me understand this so maybe I can understand what the guy I was dating is doing to himself and why he is so hell bent on basic self destruction with this girl 14 years younger than him. What is the fascination? Help!!!!!

I think this post is very judgemental and tells more about how you see guys or what your experience was than all the full spectrum of wonderful people out there. Let crap pass you by, but keep your standards high not only gfor guys, but to have good people that truly wish well around you, so judgement is not a hqbit.

Just because someone is dating someone much younger than them doesn't mean it is self destructive to them.

In some cases it is a good thing.

My stbx is dating a woman 14 years younger and she is educated, caring and responsible. She comes from an emotinally stable family and she could get my stbx to do things I could never get him to do.

For example, my stbx had an infection in his face that was getting worse.

She got him to go to the doctor which is something I could never get him to do.

If he didn't go it would have got worse and it would have spread.

So she is actually good for him. She held his head while they were working on him.

Not only that she got him to love and respect animals which he never liked animals and never cared if anyone hurt or abandoned them.

Now all of a sudden he lets her cat walk all over him. He used to either kick or push an animal that got near him.

It is hard for me to admit but she is better for him than I ever was.

My point is age doesn't make a difference.

She is so right for him as hard as it is for me to admit.

I know this is not what you want to hear and I am so sorry your ex left you for someone else.

My wife cheated on me also. I forgave her, but that experience has left me very phobic of emotional intimacy. I've had several monogamous long-term relationships since my divorce. I blame myself for the fact that each one ended. The women in question were all lovely, intelligent, kind, decent people. One of them was substantially younger than I was, but her age had nothing to do with the reasons I was dating her.

In the end, they all simply got tired of my inability to fully emotionally commit to them, because I simply refuse to put myself through what I went through with my wife again.

WOW! this got dug up out of the trash!! Actually since I posted it in May- I realized that I don't care anymore! People do strange shit for their own reasons and we can't do anything about it but take it sometimes. Thanks for all the responses though!
