Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Has she already served you with divorce papers?
Do you want to pour your heart out to her because you don't think that she really knows how you feel?
If, she does know that you deeply love her & that you would do anything to hold your marriage together & she still served you divorce papers, ... Pray.
If you want to give it ONE last heart warming try, ... go for it, ... but then be done with it. You can't make someone stay married if they want out. No matter how hard you try. :(
And I totally agree with Kbbcoop, living under the same roof makes it next to impossible to move forward without much added heartbreak. The least amount of contact, usually the quickest healing.
My heart hurts for you as I know that your situation is very complicated as far as being able to have separate housing. You are holding up much better than I ever could & I am old enough to be your Mom. (Older & wiser, lol)
Only you can decide when enough is enough. It took me two years of breaking my own heart. Sometimes, it takes more strength to just let go. Not because you want to, but because you have to, the decision was made for you.
Know your own value, you are a good man. We all, including myself, have flaws & imperfections but that doesn't mean that it is okay for someone, even if we love them, to continue to disrespect us.
Thoughts & prayers, TCB
Until then, telling her how you feel is fair game and not unreasonable.
The best and Only reason not to do so, is that it is you will probably get hurt. But at this point, will it make any difference? Perhaps you've followed her directions and allowed this to be far too comfortable for her.
If you have a question in your mind that she doesn't actually know the depth of your commitment to the relationship, by all means pour out all your thoughts and feelings to her. Don't expect anything in return.
At least you will not be left wondering "what if".
I too felt an overwhelming compulsion to tell my STBX how I felt about him. Once I got it all out and he made it obvious he had moved on, I was able to begin my healing.
Praying for you.
I still deeply love my wife and because of that am feeling incredible pain, BUT it was the hope that kept me from moving forward. Now I can start to work on myself and heal. I'm nowhere near even the midpoint of this journey but I'm at least moving in the right direction now.
Go in with your eyes wide open and prepared for the pain. Be honorable and kind, but I say do it.
The thing is, it isn't about how you feel or what you're willing to do. It is all about them and what they want. Usually, as in my case and Coop's and many more, there is already at least an emotional affair going on, and often a physical one. They are already gone, which is why they seem so indifferent to our pain.
Your best bet is to physically separate. You cannot begin to heal until that happens. Best wishes.
Accepting is releasing that illusion and understanding there is nothing you can do to change her.
There's an old, very true saying that the tighter you hold on to something, the more it resists. Letting go actually allows room for the possibility of change. As long as you hold tight, that possibilty doesn't exist. (Not saying it will change anything, cuz it probably won't. But I am saying there is NO chance of change as long as you hold on.)
You might find that once you let go everything will become easier. Believe me, I understand where you are. I spent my whole life holding on and seeing giving up as a bad thing. And I can tell you that it doesn't work. The only thing that works is to detach with love and move toward accepting and letting go.
You said,
"but if I don't fight til I can't fight anymore than I will always believe I gave up."
Believe it or not, you can choose to change what you believe. Try exchanging the words "I gave up" for "I accepted what is."
Next remove the judgment you have toward yourself about giving up. Ask your therapist to help you with this.
Also, saying simple positive affirmations every day while looking into a mirror will help you to change how you see yourself.
Examples of affirmations are:
I accept what is.
I let go.
I am allowed to accept and let go, so I give myself permission to let go.
~healing hugs~
And the reality is SHE gave up already not you.
There's plenty of posts on here of people "who fight fight fight" for their marriage but if only one is fighting I'm afraid it's a losing battle.
I just did it myself, it's a bumpy road to get started with it, but I feel like I have some hope finally. I was married for 8 years and we've just filed for divorce and I was living under the same roof until the court orders decided what was going to happen.
I was dying a slow death and if not an alcoholic already I was becoming one.
Making the decision to leave was probably the most gut-wrenching day of my life. it is so much easier said than done.
But, I've been out for 10 days. And yesterday was the first day I actually had some peace inside. Please consider it, you deserve the break and some peace for yourself.
Please reach out to me at any time. I just moved out myself and have a pretty good idea about what you're going through. Be well, be strong, but most of all love yourself.
