What's a good place in the U.S. to take a 4 day vacation?

My faves so far in order.....Santa Fe, smalltown in Colorado, and New York City. All very different. Depends on what you want to do. I really loved the culture, restaurants, art, and adobe buildings in Santa Fe....You feel like you left the country. It is amazing. There is nothing like a sunset in Santa Fe. I love Colorado, also. It is so beautiful it is surreal. we did challenge hiking and rode horses through mountains there. New York--shopping and Broadway and museums. I've always wanted to go to CA.... maybe wine country.

I wouldn't mind going to Maine. I would just eat lobster all the time. Maybe I could land a job as a fisherman. That is one of my dreams. The problem is that I get seasick.

The Boston area (Boston, Cape Cod, Martha's Vinyard). Florida Keys, especially if you hit Key West. Summit County CO (Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Dillon). Santa Fe, NM area (don't forget to hit Los Alamos, very interesting). Chicago or NY in summer.

I haven't had a vacation in over 5 years (trigger trigger). At this point, anywhere sounds heavenly :)

Yes it is hiker! The US has so much to do and see if you think about it...Washington DC has a ton of things to do...Kitty Hawk, NC is lovely (well the entire outer banks area is). Cities can be a blast and rural areas can offer new experiences.

What do you want to do Rman?

Just Monday I took a quick road trip to NE. Drove through the Pawnee National Grasslands and got to see herds of Antelope, a small wind farm...a Buffalo Herd, the national Monument on the Old Oregon trail..it was great!

OH Rman..that's one you can skip! I worked with a fellow for 2 years here..he was a Katrina survivor then evacuee. He stayed 9 mons after Katrina and couldn't take it anymore.

I wanted to see New Orleans *before* Katrina...I saw OKC right after the bombing and the monument in NYC and that stuff is depressing...very moving, though, and sometimes you can volunteer. Not exactly a vacation then, tho...
