Yepper, it does suck. The worst part about it for me is that I still would love to be friends and we could be if, I just say it is all my fault.
If I would just take him back and let him come home, since I have worked on the things I needed too, and it will be roses and sunshine now. He doesn't think there are any ways he could improve our marriage or relationship since it was all my wrongdoing. Yes, I have lost my best friend but, my real friends are willing to work on our friendship. We all make mistakes and amends, that is what makes a Real friendship.

i miss the friendship with my ex so much. how we laughed and could be ourselves. its a loss for sure. one that i feel on a very deep level.

Stbx was my friend for 9 years before we married, and best friends for 17 while we were married. It does suck.

Mine was my best friend too. Friends before we were lovers. I think, Rman, that you have hit upon the absolute hardest part. I feel your pain. I can't imagine having as good a friend ever again.

I've been thinking about this thread because my sbtx wants to be friends. Why would I want to be a friend with someone who set me up?

He was definitely my best friend and that is what is hardest to lose, I think. But I lost that best friend when he started drinking and staying out every night, long before he moved out. It is so hard living with someone and missing them at the same time. at first, the pain of not being able to call or text him during the day anymore was so enormous......just a giant hole. it is getting better.. but there are still these moments in my life I know i would have called him and I can almost hear what he would have said. It sucks beyond words.

Ironically enough, I thought the fact that we were such good friends would carry us through rough times.

Maybe I overestimated our friendship. Maybe it was an illusion.

For example, anytime someone tells me they are better friends with their ex than they were when they were married, I am automatically skeptical.

Really? Better friends? Seems like a subjective thing to put a nice face on divorce, because I fail to see how you can be better friends at that point, unless your idea of friendship is so warped that someone being nice to you is considered friendship.

I'm at the point now when I hear that, I assume that person ended the marriage.
