Whenever I see a child on a leash. It irritates the shit out of me. I understand that the parent might worry about the child running off but, if the child is not able to abide by the parent's request that they are near you...find a sitter. I have three children 22/19/5 and I never had a problem with them running off at the stores.

I had a friend who had a kid that was a runner.
That lttle shit would see something and bam he was gone.
We went to cherry creek mall once and that kid just vanished. On my watch. We were playing with my kids at the kids area and he saw something and ran. I had to choose stay with the four other kids or chase him. I chased him and he got away.
I beleave in the good of the leash.
Once little kent asked. Daddy why am I on a leash. His dad said. Kenny when you stop running away you wont have to be on the leash any more. He said ok. I need it. I run.
I beleave that. So you dont know unless you have a kid that is a runner.

well, certain kids have a harder time learning to stay by you.....but they are teachable little creatures! There are other options like shopping carts, holding your hand (insisted upon), strollers, or leaving the store/place, if they won't listen.

If they are too big for a stroller, they are old enough to learn to stay with you, or hold a hand if they cannot stay with you on their own... Just my opinion. Pretty much any kid would rather stay next to you than hold your hand the whole time. Two options. Done.

i dont use a leash really. its a monkey that hooks on like a back pack and has a thing you hold. i dont think its cruel esp due to the fact that it is design with a "fun" theme.
