At the time the transition from online "pen pals" to actual dating was very smooth. Despite how our relationship ended 9 years later, I don't blame the fact that it started online. I think the end result would have been the same had we met in person. I guess the experiences are all different for those who have dared to try it. This is just my story. Would I try again?

It's a scary, buyer-beware situation. I've heard of (and been part of) some bad experiences, but that doesn't make it all bad. I don't think you can really love someone you never met, but you can certainly develop strong feelings for them. It's always worth checking out, if you feel there's a strong connection. Just don't get hopes up too much til you have spent some real time with the real person in the real world.
