Best medicine (for me): Time. Hell of a journey.
I was barely sane sober....I couldn't imagine being drunk.
I try really hard not to over indulge in alcohol, because I'm afraid of what a drunk I would become. It's too easy to drown your sorrows in alcohol, and we have alcoholism in our family. But it does cross my mind very often!
This year, I almost died after a surgery and it is amazing what a wake up call that was. I stopped drinking at all, lost 40 lbs (and working on losing more and just started taking better care of myself.
Crawling in a bottle is no solution - a good movie, book or other activity is a better way to ease the pain. I'm going to gett "meet-up" a try as soon as I have more time.

I also have noticed that I am more apt to do stupid shit like text he loser, or call the loser, once I reach a certain drunkness....hehehehe so I'm trying to avoid that! It has been 2 FULL DAYS since I last had contact with the fucktard!
what an apt description of how I felt too
On the day the wedding was cancelled, after I ran to the bank to keep his parents from getting back the wedding money, I went out with my friends, who were supposed to be bridesmaids at the wedding. I had 3 drinks in 4 hours, which is more than I've had to drink in one night since I was about 25.
The thing that stops me from drinking is that I already have an addictive personality. I'm a compulsive overeater that once weighed nearly 600 pounds. (Not any more, thank God and my surgeon.) So my drug of choice is food, but I'm happy to say that I haven't been binging on food, although I did have too much chocolate last night.
So I'm trying to stay away from self destructive behavior.
My trainer told me about that last spring. I find after I eat one piece my craving is satisfied, and because it doesnt fire off quite as many tastebuds as the lighter varieties, I never felt the desire to eat more than the one piece at a time. Plus its full of antioxidants, and stimulants and if you eat it RIGHT after a workout it helps keep the calorie burn going.
just in case you needed another excuse to eat chocolate.
You know, I'm so glad I found this web site. It's helping me cope from moment to moment, which is all I can do right now.
