i just went and looked at the apartment I hope to be moving into soon. While the landlord and I were talking of course the seperation came up. I told her we are going to split custody 50-50 and she asked who would be rotating homes, the kids or my wife and I. I had never heard of or thought about this but apparently parents sonetimes switch homes every week or whatever to allow the kids to remain in the same residence all the time. I am just curious if anyone here has tried this or know of someone who has. I can see the benefit for the kids, but Idk.

Sounds like too much unnecessary contact with the ex. Personally I wouldn't allow my ex into my personal space for all the tea in China lol

thumbs down on that. Get your own place and set it up to accommodate the kids when they come over. You won't have the temptation to snoop through each others things which could cause some grief. I preferred not to let my EX to be privy to my private life. Sure I can get along and be nice, but someone who does the kinds of things he did while we were married is not someone I would want for a friend, so being "friends" is out the door.

A friend of mine did that to reduce the amount of stress on the kids. This arrangement allowed the kids to stay in their same home, their neighborhood, and with their same friends. It worked out very well for my friend. You have to have a very good relationship with your ex though to make it work.

If I get the apartment that Im hoping to get, our kids will be able to stay in their same neighborhood. The apartment is in front of their school and our current house is right behind the school. Im hoping and praying that I can get it. I should find out Monday.

I know of a couple who did that, but only for a short period of time. They did it for financial reasons. I would never consider it for myself, as we don't have a good relationship. And, I'd have to clean up after him in TWO places? No thank you! It would be unnecessary contact, and the whole privacy issue would bother me as well. Think about it, do you want to sleep in a bed that she and her bf have been in together? Ugh, I would think not.

I'd never heard of this before either.. just weird. I agree with the others on here.. that would open a whole different can of worms, who buys groceries? who cleans? who pays what bill? who does the laundry... ohh look its the same fights we had while married.. no I don't think that's a livable option, I doubt the kids would enjoy it much either to be honest.. I like having my own space.. and paying one mortgage, and worrying about whats going on in my home.. and not focusing on him or his drama.. its much more peaceful - the advise I'm hearing is 'this works if you have a great relationship with your ex'.. if you had a great relationship, why are you divorcing?.. good luck on figuring out whatever works for your family, but I'd say no to this one : )

It's called "nesting". My mediator recommended it. There is no way I'd go for it for all the reasons expressed here. Kids would definitely love it but you need to heal and that is impt for the kids too. And healing with that much contact with ex? Forget it!
