Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
There's this movie, Reign Over Me, one of Adam Sandler's few serious roles... The context is different, but the sentiment the same... I can't watch this scene without being brought to tears: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkMwuPpLpz8
I joined this group because I feel broken and isolated since the split, and it's not that I don't know what to do, it's just that I don't care to do it.
I'm graduating law school in four months, a semester ahead of my cohort. I'm taking the bar exam in six months. I'll have my J.D. and an LLM in nine months. I'm not on a bad trajectory. I'm not self-destructing. But I believed with my whole being that her and I were committed to one another for life. I really believed I'd found a partner. And that rug was torn out from beneath me.
To date someone is one thing. You move through your life, your prerogatives, and intermingle with someone else on occassion. How do you reset and make your life about only you after having experienced living for the sake of yourself AND someone else? The simple answer, of course, is fill the void with another someone else, but that's selfish and trite.
It's 5 a.m. and I'm drinking. Why not? It may not solve problems, but it certainly postpones the present ones.
I want to care about more than what I'm making for dinner and whether I have clean socks. I want to remember how to love life without someone so that I can again be someone worth sharing life with. But I'm not who I want to be. I am just lonely and in pieces. So I guess I'll pour another drink.

Healing hopes, Escri.
That movie is on my personal classics list. It gets me crying in several places. Some of those places made other people laugh.
One needs to fill that hole themselves, become whole again before starting into another relationship otherwise, you will cycle through the same problems.
I am learning all sorts of things. It hasn't been easy for me at all. Therapy has helped and so has my divorce group. I highly recommend both. Grief is a funny thing but we have to. As men, society says we are suppose to be strong but we have emotions too.
Stay strong, things will get better and don't be afraid to seek help. The more support you have the better this will be to deal with
Best of luck my friend.
As to everything else, you know the drinking at 5am is not a long term answer. You know there will come a day (maybe not right now) where you won't think about your love life every moment and wonder how you got here. You have an amazing future adhead of you. Let this go now and focus on that.
It does get better. Promise.
