wheres the famous cspan coverage? whats with the closed doors?
The stories I hear EVERY DAY would make you cry.
Anyway, getting back to my point... my cobra coverage is more than I make on unemployment.....My husband is working two jobs to keep me insured... we went ahead and married, cause starting January 1 I will be insured under his policy!
I agree, for my own personal sake, we need something done.... my parents are on Medicare and they cannot afford the extended coverage that they have to have either.... it is really messed up as it is right now!
Right now your Government pays per capita three times what Canadians do and then you have to fork out for your insurance and in the less than rare case have to fight with your insurance company.
Why is it so hard for what are supposed to be the smartest minds in the world to come up with a way to integrate a Government option with a public option while dropping the outrageous prices you pay.
The Canadian system is not perfect, neither is yours of course. But I do not know a single person, and this is no lie, not a single person in Canada who would trade what we have for what you have. Last survey they did as well had a 90% approval rate of our system
All these rumors you hear about our shitty health care is more or less completely false. Of course you have this rare case when a certain person was denied this drug or that drug that you can get in the states, but how many people in Canada are denied care compared to the states? I am sure when comparing the numbers, the cases up here per capita are much lower in denial of coverage, and those cases are the ones you see all the American reporters jump all over to help push their points while they ignore the 90% of us who are happy and have good things to say about our care.
Republican, Democrat or Independent, this issue is one that every one of you should push to make a good system where health care is available to everyone, even if you do not go the Government option. Because the way rates are going now, the middle class will be struggling to pay the premiums soon enough and some CEO will go from making 150 million to 300 million while common citizens struggle.
In fact I dont know one person in my lifetime who was denied treatment. The only thing I know is that we have to wait for non-life-threatening procedures, like knee replacements. We still get them, we just have to wait. And I personally have had to wait in an ER for non-life-threatening problems...but 18 months ago when I had an anxiety attack (and I told them I thought it was an anxiety attack) with chest and back pains, elevated blood pressure and heart palpitations, I was immediately put in a wheelchair and taken to the cardiac wing of ER and fussed over for the next 4 days with every test they could think of.
The thought of possibly being in an ambulance and the attendant asking or searching my pockets for proof of insurance...or my family having to sell its house because someone got cancer...ugh...or any of my students not being able to afford prenatal care just boggles my mind.
It seems like such a no-brainer to me, and such a tragedy that propaganda fueled by the insurance companies can sway so many Americans into a near panic and paranoia.
I've got my fingers crossed for all of you, but sadly the tide seems to be waning, not gaining momentum.
:(
I am always blown away when I here the "people there have to wait in Canada" argument when I know how often Mothers have to beg for quarters on grocery store counters to try to get any treatment AT ALL for a sick kid.
The propaganda machine here has done a good job here of totally snowing the American public.
I don't want the government (politicians) or any bureaucracy, mosly run by democrats, running my health care or getting within 10000 miles of it. They already play political games with social security and medicare trying to scare the hell out of seniors every 2 years at election time.
They scare the fuck out of me and I don't trust one of those fuckers, no matter what party they belong to.
we dont have those kinds of worries here, our health care is universal, we dont have one system for younguns and one for seniors...you get sick, doesnt matter your age, you get treated.
The Canadian system was started to provide health care, the system the democrats are proposing is to enhance their power and provide them with votes. If they really wanted to provide a workable publicly funded health care system they would have it designed by medical professionals, not politicians.
But I ask you, if the top people in the fields of Medicine and insurance came out and put together a plan that could cover everyone, cut costs, get rid of the pre existing condition bs and worked for mostly everyone while still allowing people to keep what they have now, would you support that?
But, and this is a big huge gigantic but, it would never make it through the senate and the house. By the time it got out of those two bodies it would look like the one we have now. That I would bet my life on.
Politicians are politicians, and they feel the need to leave their mark on everything they touch which is unfortunate.
Down their or up here, they (I would say 99% of them anyway) care more for themselves than the people they are supposed to look out for.
Hopefully you get a working plan, with a Government who is split like they are and a media who is out to make money on peoples fears from both sides, I doubt anything is going to come out of this except some wasted tax dollars.
people being humans...
f'ers!
