He broke up with me 4 days after my mom died
I was seeing this guy for nearly 4 months. We went on a family trip (me, him, and his two kids) to Disneyworld. We drove 22 hours (in my car) to get there. 3 days into our trip, my sister and brother called me to tell me that our mom, who was in the hospital, and taken a turn for the worse and wasn't given much time. (Before I left, she was ok, and my sister said to go ahead on the trip). I didn't want to disappoint the kids becaused I loved them.
So when I got the call, I booked a flight home. He and the kids would stay behind and finish the vacation, and drive my car back. He promised me (as well as his daughter, who was very upset that I was leaving) that I would stay with them for a week once they got home so that I wouldn't be alone.
When they finally got back (on his drive home he also decided to race my car...he said he was going 180km/hr), he "forgot" about his promise, and said "when I drink, I tend to exaggerate".
The day I arrived back home, I took a cab straight to the hospital. My coworkers and friends were texting, asking what was going on, am I ok? I texted him that I was rushing to the hospital because my mom was given only a few hours to live, and I was afraid that I wouldn't make it on time. His response? "What's your password to your Disney app?". Like he completely wasn't responding to what I was saying. I had to repeat it a couple more times, with no real response. By then I was thinking, wtf?
So fast forward 4 days later. He told me that he didn't mean what he said about me staying there. He asked why did I have expectations of him? I told him he promised, that's why I had expectations. He actually said "you are acting like your mom died yesterday." No, just four days ago...I should be over it by now.
So we fought, and he told me I was aggressive...that it was unacceptable. I went to pick up my car, and he put all the toys I gave the kids in the car.
So wtf? Is he a sociopath? He seems to genuinely love his kids.
And I realized that he was always drinking in order to act "happy and normal". I never noticed at the time because he never appeared "drunk". But when he didn't drink, he was cold.
Even the night before I left Florida, we went for a walk, but not before we went to the liquor store so that he could buy vodka (in order to behave appropriately maybe?).
Over the 3-4 months, he told me he was mildly bipolar, has OCD...but I don't know what to believe anymore...his stories keep changing.
So what do you make of this. I know that I should just let it go...move on, find someone who makes me happy. But it bothers me. How can someone (who seems to love his kids so much), be so inhuman?

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

there has been considerable popular press on the social impact of misogyny (hatred of women). misandry (hatred of men) seems socially blessed. poor girl. how right you are to hate the evils of men. never mind that harboring hatred burns holes in your soul. those evil creatures are worthy of all the hate we can muster.i have 5 brothers, 5 sisters and 3 sons and 2 daughters. i hold that misandry is...

As for him, he's presented a lot of red flags. As I am an alcoholic, I am not shocked by his coldness to your loss. He is not looking for something serious that could inconvenience his current path. I am sorry that your life was the experiment used in that. There's nothing you can do to change that, and I would advise don't allow yourself to be the test dummy further.
You need, and deserve a supporting hand during your difficult time. Yes, we are all human and don't always know how to offer that. But if someone checks out completely after spending an extended period of time with you, please take it as a blessing.
Red flag No. 1 - has to drink to feel normal
Red flag No. 2 - gaslights you
Red flag No. 3 - tells you he has mental disorders and still you refuse to believe him
Red flag No. 4 - low empathy
I don't think it matters to give him a label or disorder at this point. People are a mix of bad and good. Is the good (him being a good dad), worth the bad (liar, alcoholic, untreated mental illness, low empathy, gas lighter...and whatever else)...is it worth it to you?
He seems to be like a good dad (you don't know him well enough). That's not a puzzle I think you should try to stick around and figure out. You've known him 4 months...and people can pretend to be all sorts of things within that time period.
Is 4 months of an investment with a man you deem "inhuman" worth it to stay and fix him? Do you have any childhood rejection/abandonment wounds from childhood with a parent? If so, don't try to prove your worth by fixing a broken man. Fix those issues and find better.
Sending you light and love!
