I used to do this all the time.......mostly lunches. Honestly....sucked. But....it gave me a sense of control. Like....I had enough strength and courage to do these things alone. It's lonely doing it....but at the same time.....it felt empowering.

Also...what I used to do......was while I was driving...i would always think about....who will be sitting in my passenger seat one day...when I find what I'm looking for.....sorta odd I suppose....but it was my thoughts at that point in time.......you think weird things when your lonely lol.....I am proof of that lol

I used to travel quite a bit for work so, eating alone in a restaurant became routine but, I always took work with me so I can read something while I ate my solitary dinner. Here locally, I cannot. I don't mingle with people from work outside the workplace because of my position....*someday I may have to fire them*...so, at lunch, I eat my sandwich or whatever I pick up and eat it in my car and listen to Rush Limbaugh or talk on the phone to a friend.....*waves at my friend*
