Struggling with a very profound issue in my marriage. My spouse of 5 years (together 8.5) is considering leaving I believe. We have always struggled with communication. I recently shared with him a very private and personal part of my past (25 years ago past) that I had never shared because I began understanding that my resulting tendency to emotionally shut down is a huge contributing factor to our ability to communicate. This information has only been shared with three people (friends-girlfriends) and never a person I was involved in a relationship with. The gist of the information is that my first sexual experience as an 18 year old was a non consensual one when in college. My spouse has been unable to handle this information telling me he is sorry for my experiiemce but he is not sure that he will be able to get past this with me. He has stopped wearing his wedding ring, become increasingly angry with me, refusing to talk to me about this to try and work through it, tells me he's opened a new bank account, and says he will not seek marriage therapy with me.
