I often wonder why people feel the need to be in a relationship with another person. I mean do we really need companionship? Could this desire to be in a monogamous relationship, simply be due to the pressure of society telling us that we should be in a relationship? Looking back at all the relationships in my life, I really don't see why I needed to be in them at all...other then for sexual intimacy...but I can get that without being in a relationship, right?
Perhaps just having good friends and a sex partners is enough?

Actually, dating around for sex and having good friends is exactly the plan I intend to take.

The idea of another committed relationship right now for me makes me want to vomit.

It was all lumped together as part of the procreation theory: We should only have sex to make babies.

At this stage of my life, I cannot have/ achieve *true* sexual intimacy without being in a loving, respectful monogamous relationship. (F-ed around enough in my past to last a lifetime...doesn't cut it for me anymore). So, for me, it's all or nothing.

Okay, from where you sit, anything would look better than your nothing... but once you move past that... you want that person who knows your intricacies and idiocies.

Maybe your previous relationships weren't healthy and that's why they look unnecessary? mine weren't either, i'm not judging.. sometimes it's hard to imagine a healthy relationship when you haven't had that, or haven't had it in a reaaaaaallllllly long time.

TD's line about putting yourself out there is exactly what i'm afraid of... but meaningless sex doesn't do it for me (anymore). Fun at the moment, but makes you feel like shit afterwards.

I'm feeling a bit embittered and cynical today, but the demand for monogamy extends as far as the laws of this country. If you're incapacitated (and all it takes is a speeding car to make that happen), you need to have someone make decisions for you.

I really don't want a spouse but a loving companion would be so wonderful. I have tons of friends but there still is this gap for me.

When people here are mentioning committed relationships, are you implying that you would marry again? Just curious to know.

I have done the friendship/sex thing also. Nope it is not how I am wired. It is unfulfilling and not for me. I want someone who is vested in my life, not just for moments here and there. Yes I would get married again.

I don't even want to hear the word marriage right now....can't rule it out forever.. But I see benefit to a committed BF/GF relationship, too. Sex is safer with a BF/GF than sleeping around. It is more fulfilling emotionally than dating around. And I kind of hate dating... So maybe it leads to marriage and maybe it doesn't. *shrugs* It might be fulfilling in it's own way. I had this great boyfriend experience that i think of when i hear 'boyfriend'......so I associate it positively i guess.
