or maybe you just arent ready....
But I would suggest not having high standards when first meeting women. Go out, meet new people, have fun and see what they are like. Some things you will notice is that some of the areas you have in your (do not settle category) are over turned by the fact they introduce something new to your life that may carry on past a date with them.
Keep realistic expectations of course, but do not keep high ones until you find someone you are interested in bringing to the next level. That is when you have your standards set where you want them and you will see dating is allot more fun when your not out looking for a mate, but meeting new people and enjoying their company stress free. If something works out then great, if not then smile and move on and you might just gain a few new freinds along the way.
I meet a woman last year, we talked, went out and it was not a match for her, but I was still interested in her. We are friends now, keep in touch on facebook and she is in a healthy happy relationship and I am happy for her. I moved on, dated a few others and am with a great woman now and we will see where it goes.
Best of luck, take your time, there is a wonderful woman out there waiting for you, its just a game of hide and seek to find her. So enjoy playing the game to find her.
seriously, I like mopri's advice about just meeting people without high expectations and not worrying about finding 'the one' at all.. seems like a healthy way to do it.
It scares me to death! I've never dated, been with my stbx since I was 16.
Enjoy yourself and your sailing.
I also woke up feeling utterly alone again. I just realized that the only two people that I know that are in the area will be gone today or tomorrow and I will be heading home by myself. One of these days I am going to have to find someone to cruise with! That will at least kill that "Oh So Lonely" feeling.
You know that you were born to sail. It's your love, and shines through any and everything else. You are living that dream every day. The fact that you have no one to share it with, is certainly sad, but reflect to those in life who have not found that passion, or cannot live the dream. Those who have no clue who they are, or where they are going. In respects, I envy you. Your life is so sorted out, that you have only this aspect to focus on. See things for what they is, and they is good. Someone to compliment you in life is icing, not the foundation. :o)
