Rman - When I saw this thread the first thing I thought of was beauty of the heart - selflessness, tolerance, humor, love for others; to me, these things are beauty.

My kids......breath-taking.....
Also, kind souls and warm hearts. Being generous with time and love. All of these things are truly beautiful to me.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Beauty, to me, is something good that hits me so hard that it makes me stop whatever I am doing or thinking to open my senses completely to it. It could be my son's laughter, a particularly colorful sunset/sunrise, an older person whose face still holds a genuine smile after the many stories and paths they have survived. Recently, while in the hospital, I was hurting badly one night. I was alone, it was probably 1 a.m. and one of the floor nurses began to sing a beautiful song in such an amazingly soothing voice. She was from Africa and I didn't understand a word, but it was gorgeous. You may never know where you find beauty. The trick is to be open to stopping and receiving it.

I can associate beauty with human beings.. The female form is the most beautiful thing in the world to me.

To me beauty is something positive that moves you... something that stops you and makes you say "wow". A sunset, a flower, a kid's laugh, someones kindness, a painting or sculpture, a song. An intimate connection. Getting to know someones soul can be extremely beautiful.

As opposed to art, which can be equally moving, but can be negative: a disturbing photo, an angry song, etc.

That's a tough one to define..

So negative and disturbing things can be beautiful...

Love is like the wild rose-briar; Friendship like the holly-tree. The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms, But which will bloom most constantly? E.B.

beauty is anything that has a pleasant response from a place in one's heart. often, there is greater beauty beneath the surface than on top. it's true for people as well as things like the concrete jungles of cities.
