O.K... so my ex, in his early mid-life crisis, bought a Mustang, had an affair w/ a 20 year old, and started working out heavily to be a cage fighter at 33. I won't get into how assinine all that may be, but his relationship ended with this other woman.... which may be a tangent....and he still thinks of me as his "best friend". We were married 12 1/2 years, have two young boys, and now that I really see that I don't want him back I think maybe we could be friends...So his first fight is against the local heavy weight champ in a couple weeks. I'm curious to see how it plays out, if he really has learned something in these training sessions. He invited me, but I'm not sure it's a good idea for me to go. On one hand he has been the central person in my life for so long, and it's such a big event for him that I'd like to see it. The flip side is the danger of falling into the "possibility of reconciliation" mentality. He just left at the beginning of August. It also bothers me that there are all these bikini'd women there who likely pursue fighters, and as he left me for a woman with a beautiful body I can't help but be jealous on some level. Am I being retarded? Please advise.

Oh boy! I won't even ask the size of his package! He has gone all out with the mid life crisis! If you want to be friends, you can be, but I personally think he has stated how he feels and his actions speak volumes, I say run like hell and don't look back, as much as that may hurt, your husband is very immature and is only looking out for himself and he is stringing you along so he doesn't have to feel the full brunt of his betrayal. Do what you need to do...

That is a tough one. I wonder if he thinks this will impress you and make you run back to him, men think this way sometimes.

I tend to think you should not go, especially if you don't want him back.

Pink I've read and responded to some of your other posts. I think you do still want him back, but only if he changes somehow. I don't think he is going to. He is selfish and won't be the husband and father you need him to be. Trying to be best bud's is not going to work and will only bring on more heartache. I'm just calling it like I see it. When he comes for booty call are you going to be able to say no? I doubt it. He wants to be friends so he doesn't have to be committed to you or work on having a healthy relationship. Since you two have children together I don't think it is wise to try and be his "friend." Now if he was into some activity you can take the kids to watch ( I forget their ages) then by all means take them to watch and support Dad until they are older to do it themselves. I urge you to be careful, this is the father of your children and you are providing them with an example of how a relationship is supposed to be like. I had to face that in my own situation. I didn't want my daughter to think it was ok to be treated the way I was being treated.

Thank you for your input. I am astoundingly better already. I signed up for a local dating site, and have been e-mailing various men. I haven't gone out with any yet, but just hearing about what they're studying, how much they love their dogs, what kind of upstanding people they are, has really helped me break the spell of my ex. He's such a "fucktard" (to reference another post) that I feel it would be impossible to be with a worse guy. That said, reading some of these stories here make me a little apprenensive that there are a lot of soulless people out there who really don't get what it is to really love someone.
I'm feeling more positive now, that I've been given another chance to be happy. I was not happy with him. I know that. He yells at me every time he sees me now, makes ridiculous threats... He made a demand that I bring our son home from kindergarten immediately when I pick him up IN CASE he stops by to see him on break. I'm like, "You have a cell, I have a cell... call me and let me know instead." He got all worked up over that, like I'm not obeying my master or something. Fucktard.

Oh... BTW.. Yes!!! I do want to see him get knocked on his ass! I'd been fantasizing about beating the crap out of him, and now it may come to fruition. That may be one reason to go. I don't want to feel bad to see him hurt, though. I don't know how I'll really feel in the reality. He has a bad back and a prolapsed valve in his heart. He's out of his mind to do this.

Our guys could be twins! Well, your ex-guy and my stbx-guy. There must be something in the Michigan water!

Mine is 32, training to be a powerlifter and cheated on me with a 19 year old. Only, she didn't have so great a body...which makes me question my being fat as the reason for our separation. Oh, yeah...and he wants to be my "best friend", too!

Run for the hills! Don't go, Pink. If you've gained a modicum of distance, keep it. Protect your heart, it is the most important thing.
