To answer your question from the alien point of view... as far as logic, and baseline emotions, you are correct. People really aren't that different. Only genetic skew, and missing chromosomes, differ us as to what we want. I wouldn't call Jeffery Dahmer human, although he had emotions, same as us.
Now, I remember before my kids were born. My wife and I used to go out on Saturday evenings, rent some movies and pick up some take out. We would bring the food and movies back to our apartment, put blankets and pillows on the floor, then eat our food and watch our movies. We would eventually end up making love. I remember the feeling of being one with another person. We were the same. I remember holding her in my arms and thinking that there was no other place on earth that I would rather be...
Sure there are differences among the genders, but when all is said and done, men and women are really looking for the same thing.

Explains it all. We are really wired differently. We have different hormones. But in terms off overall wants, there is no man and woman. just human.
