Funny thing is, though, that my daughter forwarded a message from him to me---all very similar to what you had thrown at you.
It's an awful, overwhelming feeling getting smacked in the face AGAIN with all the crap that you had managed to put behind you.
It is such a hard job to get past it and move forward, and there's so much nasty pain in there!
Don't let message make you start doubting yourself again. He's responsible for his own life and his own decisions.
You probably opened that third email in hopes that perhaps there would be something positive within. Maybe somewhere deep down you wish it could have worked out. It may also be symptomatic of the fact you have not brought complete closure to this issue either. Why else revisit if it's behind you? I would examine the issues that broke the two of you up, come to terms with it, and move on without the possibility of reconnecting. As long as you keep him in an environment like email where he can contact you, the past will remain alive and well.
