I took a hearing test a few months ago and my hearing was rated as good for my age. That doesn't mean it's extraordinary though. That other problem or yours never affected me either.

I have hypersensitive hearing in the side which has been weak from the injury. It is troublesome and can manifest like pain when very loud motorcycles go past or someone talks too loudly in my ear. My O.T. thinks it's my inability to cancel out background noise; however I think it FEELS like my brain has computed things wrongly in some way and everything is just too loud. I hate it.

Hi NoBotox, I get overstimulated very easily, it was described to me as after TBI/ABI the brain for some can not filter noise very well. I use to live in an apt/second floor/when the person in the third floor apt above me walked across their floor it felt like they were walking right on my head....it was bad!! That was years ago, but I still use cotton in my ears/daytime..,.foam earplugs/nighttime and box fans on medium for "white noise"....day and night......that is both comforting to me and filtering and I live on the top floor apt too!!

My "gut instincts" are much stronger now too, I haven't experienced the earth shift thing....,vertigo I get easily if I haven't slept well! Happy Holidays to you too!

I have the same problem you do Cheesecake. I have problems with people walking above me too, while other sounds can be just as annoying. I consider it to be a neurological problem. From what I saw on a news report recently, there's nothing you can do about it. I just wear silicon plugs when I'm in my place to save my sanity.

Up to last year, I could hear all at the same time:
TV, Fan from Computer, my breathing, my heartbeat, the birds outside, kitty meowing, birds tweeting, cars driving by. People in the cars talking as car drove by.

I could probably hear a mouse pee on cotton.

We really DO have super hearing. More then regular folk do.
It channels right in, and we are overloaded.
Took 8 years, but now I can almost hear regular, but stil much better, than pre-injury.

the only thing with me is hearing white noise all the flipp'n time. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to start jumping high buildings in a single leap or anything. lmbo although ex ray vision would be cool...

Sounds tuff, hearing white noise. I don't know it I could handle that. My woes are not so bad. X-ray vision. Cool super power.

we all have super powers or we'd never have lived through what we all have lived through. I've just kind of got use to the white noise, that's the hardest part of all this crap. Learning to adjust to the different vision, hearing, way of walking, lost memories, and the way people look and talk to you. Everyone here is a super man or woman. One day at a time we well shine on...

My husband was deaf enough to need a hearing aid before he got encephalopathy from influenza. Now he can hear every voice in a room, even a large room. He also has a strong sense of smell.

I have "super hearing" and it sucks..every noise my neighbors make , or the worst is I hear every car that comes near my house,I live close to a highly traveled road..I hear car ...even their tire whine..as the car travels..I drives me nuts,I have no answers concerning relief, but at least I dont need an alarm or motion dectectors..no one can come near my house without me knowing it..so try to find the upside.good luck

I have had a fan nearby for 3 years..I kid you not I never shut it off!,I I have to have the white noise going at all times, otherwise,every bird tweet,footstep of people walking near my house..every little noise is magnified..try getting a fan..see if it helps

I had exciting feelings of "AHA moments", in my first 18 months of recovery. It became less intense and less often and now I get them very far and few between but they happen. EVERY BRAIIN INJURY is DIFFERENT. I know this because my brother has a PHD in the neuro sciences and his best friend is a doctor at a teaching hospital

They told me early on that every brain injury is different and that there is little known about how the brain works. My brother encouraged me and was boldly truthful about everything. I am very lucky to have them in my life. I used to cry so hard over what I lost and my brother never used to smoke screen the feeling with, " it will get better " because he didn't know. I trust him and is wife more than anyone. They are my legal guardians and I'm 49-they 53. I used to be humiliated by it but now I'm soooo greatful. I ward off bullshit right away, but for me only. I trust my brother to handle my money and I can. Talk about lucky yet unlucky. You may find people who confirm or deny, but it is real to you and may not be a year from now, but so what. Don't analyse too much because you'll never know for sure Make sense? Sometimes I take long to get to the point, but that's my TBI. I wish you the very best with your progression.
