Yes...I have this all the time. I have really bad aphasia and sometimes my own family the ones who are the closest to me get fed out with my aphasia.

It is so funny that this post is here because I just joined and was going to post THIS topic!! My brain injury occured just recently, July 22nd of this year. The headaches were unbearable until a few weeks ago. Now they come and go. But my memory loss is getting worse not better. I have friends who tell me I tell them the same things over and over. I also will get replies to posts I posted on other groups and I will go read it and have no memory whatsoever of writing it!! And THAT happens ALL the time!! Also everything I write I proof read before hitting send and I find that the little words I am screwing up like if I want to say "to" I will type
"at" things like that.
But something that happend 20 years ago I can tell you what I was even waring!! LOL maybe not THAT good, but really really have TERRIFIC long term memory. Does anyone know why this is? Why is it that only our short term memory is effected? If you know PLEASE tell me, as today is Sunday and now that it just popped into my head out of nowhere I am dying to know. I can ask my doc monday, but if I dont have to wait that would be great! LOL

I have also heard that fish oil can be good for short term memory...I do the crossword puzzle in the newspaper ecveryday,and I think it helps keep my brain limber...

Yes this happens to me often too, like when I am telling some story and then I just completely lose track of what I was saying or what the whole point of what I was saying was. I feel very silly at these times. bUt i have talked to others and sorry I haven't read all the replies here and so do not know if someone has talked about this already but I have heard that it is more of a attention problem that we have not a short term memory problem. This makes sense to me when I am listening to something and my mind wanders or I feel like i just lose interest in what this person is saying. I don't go to the cinema anymore either because of this. Unless it is a light hearted commedy. As that you can come back into at any stage if you lose it. I guess when I am talking about something too I can just lose track of where I am going with it as I think before I was always thinking ahead where as now i can't do that I can only focus on the present moment. When I came to this conclusion it really helped me. I felt I reached a new point of acceptance. I don't know about you but my regular memory is quite good. If I hear something and I am really thinking about it I will never foget it. If I am not paying much attention I will never remember it. I do seem to have a big problem with my visual memory too though so remembering peoples faces sets me up for some embarrassing moments but once i hear a person talk, I can remmeber their voice and I can remeber everything else. I know that everyone is different and everyne has different problems but try and work on your attention and if you feel you are slipping take abreak or just say excuse me amoment. do something else and come back to what you were doing. This helps me anyway so can't hurt to give it a try. Good luck

I called my doc and talked to my nurse about the fish oil and she said he will not order it without seeing me first. The next available apt. isnt until November 16. So hubby is picking me up the over the counter stuff on his way home tonight. They have it on sale right now 2 for 1!!! So I will try it. Do you think doubling the dose of the otc will help?
