Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.
We recently moved. As I was packing the house, I kept on loosing the packing tape, scissors and Sharpie marker. (Now, a non-TBI'r will think this is no big deal. But when you lose these items 20+ times in a day - Argh!)
So, I finally wrapped the tape around my neck, and put the scissors and marker in my back pocket.

Oh I also use a dry erase marker board, I write everything I need to do on it each night for the following day and check things off as I go along.
My neuropsych said it helps to stay focused on the task at hand and only do (and finish) one task at a time. Moving requires a lot of multi-tasking, something I wouldnt be able to do right now. Good job figuring it out and being resourceful Lanie! :-)
I do fairly good with my memory now, it's been 6 years for me. And, I am back at work full time. My memory does pretty good with that. I do have to make sure I do things right away so I don't forget. I have to think out the process in my head before I begin, to make sure I have it all together. It doesn't come natural to me anymore. It's a process, and I have to remain aware of that fact that I must stay on my toes all the time. It's work just to remember! Sad but true!! I guess that why the insignificant stuff just goes into that black hole. :(
Elanie I am not moving but I am remodeling which has many similar tasks and it has been pretty challenging! we have a pow wow every morning, and I'm realizing that the auditory and social components help me remember what's on my list. Lists are essential, as well as routines. And lists of routines. I check in with a group online throughout the day, which also helps with motivation. Plus, I don't usually loose my computer, while loosing my list happens frequently!
Having a "parking spot" for everything is another essential. I have a "launch pad" which helps me get out of the house. Since the remodel started, I haven't had one, and I've been 30 mins late to everything since. i can't get out of the house in less than that.
Hopeless with names and faces put together often. Still havent found something I have been looking for on and off for over a year. Did find it, put in safe place, the black hole took it, and now want to use them and where is it? Still looking.
