Bisexuality is a sexual orientation which refers to the aesthetic, romantic, and/or sexual attraction of individuals to other individuals of both their own and the opposite gender or sex. Most bisexuals are not equally attracted to men and women, and may even shift between states of finding either sex exclusively attractive over the course of time.
Hi guys, I'm Amanda, 19/f and I'm bisexual. I don't feel the need to "experiment" or whatever anymore because I know who I am and what I like. I believe majorly in gay rights and the LGBT community and will help any LGBT person who needs it.
Anyways, here's my issue:
All my friends and my boyfriend knows that I'm bisexual and that I have had "relations" with females in the past and currently do from time to time. But there's one problem: None of my family (except for my transsexual older brother [born a girl, wants to be a boy] ) knows that I am. I feel it's not a big deal for everyone in my family to know, but I feel that sometimes it's important for my mom to know and I don't know how to tell her.
For example: I've had sleepovers with one of my close friends because of our feelings for each other and my mom thought it was just a regular sleepover. I've always wanted to go to the famous Pridefest in Milwaukee, WI for the past few years, but my mom never let me because she always says, "Why do you want to go? You're not gay, you have no reason to go there." I've always tried to explain what being bisexual is and she doesn't quite understand it. Don't get me wrong, she's a very open and understanding person, but when it comes to sexuality, it's hard for her to grasp the concept of how someone is bisexual. Her understanding is, "How does somebody not know who they like or like both? You either love men or women." It frustrates me sometimes because it is possible to love both men and women equally and in some cases one gender more so then others.
So here's my question:
>How do I tell my mom that I'm bisexual?
>How do I explain to her what bisexuality in a way she'd understand?

If you were 29 and deciding on a lifelong partner who is a woman, that could be a different situation where she'd have to accept your choice.
It's hard enough for some parents to know their children as sexually active and at times, it's more of a don't ask, don't tell scenario.
