Zyprexa? Always sleeping?

My psychiatrist thinks that its a good thing.. "Since your sleeping a lot you cant be manic"? Along with this I am taking Lithium 350mg 3 times a day. The Zyprexa is only 5 mg and it makes me sleep for 12-15 hours! My doctor wanted me to start taking one in the am as well as at night and I haven't been doing it, I would like to be some what functioning! Now I noticed depression kicking in, (I'm usually more manic than depressive), and I find my self taking this medication just for me to sleep... I started taking a half more or two pills just for me to sleep the day away. I have tried telling her the last apt that i don't like it, and she says its a very good combination with Lithium? Anyone else have issues with Zyprexa? Lots of sleep but when your awake your very irritable? I have tried many medications, Lithium ER has helped so much, just wish the was another med to take along with it to help. I can't go up on the Lithium because it starts affecting my Thyroid Levels. Any recommendations to talk to my doctor about? I have tried (probably spelled some wrong lol) Limictal, Geodon, Eqqotro, Risprodal, Trazadone, there was one more but i for go it.

For me Zyprexa works great only med that has really helped me. I take 5mg at night and I wake up fine, but that's me. Might be another med your on I don't know?

Nope its the Zyprexa, I have be on my other medications for years, this new symptom started when i started Zyprexa. My doctor now has me on it just for sleep at night and started me on another mood stabilizer.

I use to take zyprexa as well and it made me sleep and gain a ton of weight.

I agree very much with MomOF2Rose. I took it and it made me sleep constantly and gain 30 pounds in 2 months. However, Lithium didn't work for me so I don't know if they work well together. Good luck.

Zyprexa made me look drugged, but it didn't help me sleep. When I get seriously manic or I get into a mixed episode, NOTHING and I mean NOTHING helps me sleep. At one point, I went a week without sleep.

Zyprexa = Gained 29 pounds in 29 days . No change in eating habits, just GAINED.

Hi,

Zyprexa made me into a zombie. I'm now on Seraquel with Abiify and Cipralex. Able to function and feel wonerful.

Teewing medication takes time, years sometimes, but when you hit the right combination, you'll know.

Do you all try to exercise and eat healthy foods, more veggies and fruits and maybe a little more caffeine when needed? I am a diabetic with bi polar and heavy depression and this helps me a lot. Exercise and knowing your not alone in this battle helps

hope you all have a blessed, happy week! Pray for me as I am having problems with work and very bummed out about some mistakes I made and not on purpose by any means

Zyprexa works for me for now (20 mg) at bed. I would normally sleep about 16-18 hours a day but my pdoc put me also on adderall (20-60 mg) a day and this combo with lamictal for depression is giving me my life back. I can focus, have energy, no mania, virtually no depression, very little psychosis and paranoia. Greatness. Definitely ask your pdoc about adderall if they want you to stay on zyprexa.

Yep Zyprexa makes me sleepy! I'm manic now, and with these weird sleeping patters my Pdoc added it so I could get rest and slow my mind down. I just went from 2.5 to 5mg once in the am. What I do rather then take it when I wake up, is I go to bed between 10pm-1am every night, and set my alarm for around 4-5am depending what I have going on the next day and take my Zyprexa then and sleep in until 9am or after. If I have nothing going on then I just let myself sleep and have slept as late as 2pm. I'm scared of everyone mentioning weight gain because I've finally just lost enough weight to get me down to 295lbs and this is probably the first time being under 300 in a year.
