Zoloft and Mania???

I took 25 mg of Zoloft this afternoon as per my pdoc request for anxiety and paranoia issues.....and I think it's making me hypomanic......I am extremely happy! And LOVING IT! There's no way I want to tell my pdoc what it's doing to me......if she knew she'd take it away from me and tell me to try something else. I am tired of being the guinea pig! I am really really happy for once, and don't I deserve to be happy? I won't crash too hard because geodon is keeping everything else at bay......but for once to live without anxiety ridden fear feels....nice.....

Be careful with it if you are not on a mood stabilizer or enough mood stabilizers. Yes it can very well cause mania - but honestly Bipolar Princess it takes a bit longer than a day to build up in your system, like a few weeks at least.

Maybe a placebo effect?

I've had antidepressants have an effect in as little as 3-4 days, but never that quickly. Then again, anything is possible....watch out, b/c if it IS pushing you hypomanic at a starter dose, you may go full blown manic once it builds up in your system. Not good.

I agree with Amal, AD's dont have that quick an affect so it may just be that you feel better.

Honestly, I have more of an issue with the way you relate to your pdoc.........you will get the same respect from her that you give her. You cant complain about how she treats you medically if you are not honest with her about everything. Its called "selective" medical treatment and non compliance.

Amal, my pdoc says Geodon is used off label as a stabilizer and I take 160 mg of it a day......I am supposed to increase my zoloft dose to 50 mg after it gets in my system. AND if 25 makes me feel manic, I say BRING IT ON! WHEE!

Princess, it might help you to sort out the differences between your BP and BPD symptoms. I think it could change your perspective on how you view things and how they affect you emotionally. Are you in talk therapy of any kind? If not, that could help you learn proper responses and reactions to situations in your disorders. It just doesnt seem you quite get the seriousness of all of this.........you place more seriousness on your competitiveness with your children than you do with your medical care.

This is important for you to gain proper medical treatment so you can truly stabilize. Hugs

Ok - my educated guess would be that you were having suicidal thoughts before, agitation, etc... now you are feeling a bit euphoric. Could it be you are a bit manic and would be even without meds? I would just guess that.. Just my 2 cents.

If you just started zoloft, there is no way it could be affecting your mood already. It typically takes weeks before any improvement is felt.
Also 25 mgs. is a very low dose. I take 200 mgs a day. But I also take 600 mgs of Seroquel XR to keep a lid on the mania.
I'd say enjoy the euphoria, wherever it's coming from. Just highly doubt it's the zoloft.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
