Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Hi! Over the last 6 months I have been diagnosed with adhd and bipolar disorder. I'm adjusting to my new normal- regular meds, constant self-care, therapy, etc... I'm not liking the side effects of my Lithium but I do feel better taking it than not. I'm hoping to treat my adhd as well but stimulants can cause mania. I just need the right balance and dosages I guess. I'm struggling with who to tell about my Bipolar Disorder (and who not to tell). Stigma seems to be everywhere! Any advice about any of this would be sooo appreciated!!

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. So many bad things have happened since my mom passed. One thing after another it seems. Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up. Thank...
I've been diagnosed with bipolar I since I was 17 years old. Its been almost 15 years of this diagnosis for me. I did also struggle in the beginning to who to tell and "not to tell." It definitely depends on how comfortable you are with it.. I refrained from telling people that are just my acquaintances.. It started off with the understanding that your diagnosis is just labels they do not dictate who you really are. I suggest telling someone you really care about and see how they react and then if they are forthcoming with the news.. go on from there. It will be a struggle in the beginning but it gets easier. It did for me. I tell my co-workers to people I just kinda met that I suffer from mental health...
Hope this helps !
I was an advocate for a time so I was comfortable telling whomever about it however there can be a stigma... I wanted to stand up to it and that was good for me however it can be a double edged sword
If you're looking for a safe place it's good to stick to groups and people who understand it in the psych community or places that really 'get' your disorders
If you want to tell more people about it I would wait until you feel stable and have a good support system.... Big hug.... xo
I am finding more and more people sharing things with me about themselves or about struggles a loved one has had, and if it helps then in that moment that I disclose more details about my illness and it serves a purpose in me sharing then I do so. But I never really bring it up on my own. Just my experiences of course!
