Try a Community Church....like the South Bend Community Church etc...

They are usually non Denominational, but still are pretty open minded .

Again - churches are nice, but they are not the only people to ask!!!

The are Kiwanis clubs, rotary clubs, Y's, community centers, banquet room in a diner!

I got 50 NO"S, and its not because anyone thought I was less than or demonic! It was just NO - you just keep ASKING!

It was NOT easy finding a free room in 2012, and people have the RIGHT to say NO....

It is hard work to start and do anything, in our lives - You need to do this for you, but thinking its easy, and churches owe us - is what bothers me!

Sorry if I come off hard, but it was not easy for me to find a location... But I found a great one, and its mine now - the meeting is slowly growing.

I have scholarships for training and travel, being involved with NAMI and DBSA.... win win - but its not easy

I think Gina has given you some great ideas...I guess we just think of Churches first, because they are supposed to be " Helping " people .

Keep looking...we need more places for meetings like this .

Locally, I don't have a bipolar meeting place that is within 60 miles or so.

Wish I could help have not found support in any real denominations I have found some guidance in Wiccans and some of their beliefs but as far as support none. Good luck in your adventure.

Also - it bothered me too, all the no's from churches - actually by the 20, and 30 No it hurt - with my crap, it wasn't all in one week, a couple months I kept getting rejected. Just me, wanting to start a meeting. State office was helping and encouraging - but the starting - all me...

I went to one about 10 years ago in a Salvation Army Church. But one of the members went to the church.

To think I thought I was in a stuffy old Baptist Church. I guess we are quite progressive. Mind you, it is going to take 6 months to jump through all the hoops.

I know a woman in BC does it out of the Alliance Church. I hope you find a good space, and boo! to all those churches who did not reach out to you. We have AA and NA, so why not bipolar and depression, is what I say!

My church here, they will let me have a DBSA meeting with no problem, the problem is that in this town, people even hide the fact that they have just depression. The stigma is bad with so many. So yes we would at first get people to come, have had a lot show interest. The thing is that as soon as such and such, or so and so recognized this one's or that one's vehicle and figured out what the meeting was for, they would stop showing up. My Pastor and I have discussed this extensively as well as my therapist and i. All of us have came to this same conclusion.

The closest I can go to is about 30 miles away, There is not a DBSA meeting there, and I am not sure on a regular Bipolar group either. Maybe I should do some checking. But then not sure that I can afford.
