when did you find out you were BP?

I found out three years ago in October 2005. I missed my daughter's halloween costume. Which I had paid over 50 at most for to see her in her costume when I told one of my good friends that I thought a plastic chicken leg was the key to the universe. And I was talking gibberish, and she couldn't understand me.That's when she called the cops and they escorted me to the ER. She watched my child when I was in the unit and told the cops that she was her grandmother even though she was just a really close friend. She kept CYS out of my life by acting as a grandparent for me and for that I am really grateful. But they were going to let me cool down and release me in the er until I blacked out and beat up a nurse and it took three nurses to hold me down. The nurse wouldn't let me use the phone after I repeatedly been calling my friends on the phone. Well, the nurse said I used the phone too many times. I got really angry (blame it on my bp) and blacked out and attacked the nurse and it took two other nurses to get my grip released from the nurse and then they threw me in lockdown and didn't let me out of the unit until my paranoia and BP was stable a week and a half later. I missed halloween. =(((((

When after my 3rd suicide attempt I woke up from my coma to find a pdoc there. When I described what I was feeling he said "My God! No one ever put you on Lithium"? It was the best day of my life!

I was dx last year (April). Hearing voices, hallucinating, and in and out of reality. Don't remember much last year. My husband hates talking about it, tears him up inside.

I have since graduated to the BP2 level. I aspire to be a BP1.

I am a bp1 it's so not fun. I halucinate and have really deep delusions like the world is out to get me and that sort of thing and deep routed patanoia. BP1 is no fun dobie.

I know BP Princess. I'm just funnin'. I honestly thank God that He made me BP2. I don't know how you guys handle it. You are all true heros.

my pdoc kept saying she thought i was bipolar when i was preggo but she wanted to "watch me" thoughout my pregnancy to determine what was wrong. sometime after I had my son, I got the official diagnoses of bipolar NOS, then a while later it was bipolar 2, and then I got hospitalized and yet again, it changed to bipolar 1. crazy how that works huh?

I went manic the first time in 1999. I had watched a friend hit the wall, and I realized I was acting just like him. I called the p-doc, but too late!

I bought a house and gutted it! I love sawalls. They cut about anything.

Then I cycled, became suicidally depressed, homeless and declared bankruptcy.

Thank god for family.

I had tried to kill myself a few times, each time my mom found me and was too afraid people would think she was a bad mother or a mother raising a 'psycho' as she put it at the time, she always just took care of whatever I had done to myself. When my Mom was diagnosed with cancer for the third time she decided it would be okay for me to go to a talk-therapist about my Mom because no one thought my Mom was going to live. The therapist said I had manic depression due to the deaths surrounding my life. My Mom got better and she let me stay in thearpy because I hadn't tried to kill myself. One year later my thearpist and other doctors decided to try Lithium because no anti-depressants would work. Lithium had been a miracle drug for me. That was when it was decided I was bipolar. My mother supports me greatly with it, but she doesn't think I should let anyone know at all because of the stigmas that go along with the illness.

I was DX after I put myself in several physch wards and they all told me I was a tired housewife and mom. Finally after 2 yrs I found a dr who said I think your BP and put me on the right meds. I started feeling better in 1 week. This was 5 yrs ago this month.
My husband was last Sept. He was DX after he was put on Zoloft and went Manic. He still doesnt thionk anything is wrong with him, well he was starting to think maybe something was wrong but after this weekend it looks like mania is back so it will be a while again.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
