What's the max dose of melatonin???

My pdoc told me the max dose was like 6mgs or two pills because they are 3 mg each. Is she telling me the truth or is she holding out on me?
I didn't sleep a wink last night and have been forced to try the melatonin again by my pdoc even if she knows that it didn't help me sleep at all last time but doesn't want to admit it. Thanks

Melatonin is a natural substance produced by the brain and which production decreases with age.

3mg is the usual dose (I, too, take it) and it, I believe, takes a few days to be effective. 6mg is, I think, the maximum dose produced.

I suggest you post this query under the advice section in order to get an expert's opinion.

Hi, I'm new here, but I was told that I could take up to three pills of melatonin as a sleep aid. The ones I have are 300 mcg- I have no idea what that means, but I hope it helps.

Maybe they gave you 300 mg they only gave me 3mg. I am bummed because 3 or 6 mg it doesn't matter what I take it still does nothing. And my pdoc won't listen to a word I say anymore.

Actually, my husband bought these at Walmart in the herbal remedy section. If you still can't sleep though, maybe seeing another Doctor would be a good idea. The first dr. I saw about my sleeping problem told me to read a book to get tired. I laughed at him. I hadn't had a good night's sleep in over a month at that point and he wanted me to read???
