Cheldar, what do their eyes look like or what are their actually manerisms?

don't everyone get all paranoid..if you're well medicated & not in crisis/episode/one the edge..it's not like a sign in neon lights above your head.
I think it's more obvious in some than others..particularly people who are very grandiose, expansive & hypomanic or whatever most of the time.
Sometimes people who are overmedicated can look pretty distinctive too.

Well, when i try to tell people i have bp or depression problems, they usually don't beleive me.

I think i look totally normal on the outside, i think thats one reason i had trouble getting the support from the doctors and ss.

But, it only takes one witnessed "eipisode" for someone to get it!

It's funny, the pdoc from the Socsec dis, wrote me up to be perfectly fine, i then crossed the hall to the regular doctor for physical, and he wrote me up to have PTSD, Anxiety, affective mood disorder, BP, depression, and panic attacks!

The differnce was pdoc asked me to add 2+ 2, and I was able to do it. The reg doctor, poked me in the stomach and caused me to "explode" with a hysterically scream and sobbing. That is all it took for me to loose it, but if he didn't poke me in the stomach and asked me to add 3+ 3, he would have thought i was fine also.

I just contacted the DBSA support group allience. I am going to await their reply. Hopefully i will have a support group to go to soon. Before finding this info, i did not know there were suppport groups in my area.

in answer to your question, HannaHana, it depends on the person, and whether or not they are on the proper meds. Even then, they may show signs of mental illness. Not every one does. It also depends on how well people react to different stimuli. Hope this helps.

BOO!

I went to an intensive outpatient day program for two years (yes, TWO years) and was often mistaken for being one of the counselors. I always thought it was because I dressed nicely. Hmmm ... now you've got me thinking HannaHana.

Well, I don't like to think about being MENTALLY ILL, the term actually makes me uneasy. I prefer just to say, I have alot of anxiety, or I don't sleep well, or I can be a little moody. If you met these people somewhere else, and wern't in the group, would you have known they all had illness'.? Probably not.

At the group I was asked by one of the other members how I took care of myself b/c I seemed to be very well.

Honestly, I've been very depressed and anxious lately, and I told them that it must just be that it was the most social interaction I'd had in a long time.

I asked my bf (saner) and he said I don't come across as different at all. (but isn't he paid to say stuff like that or something? haha)

I'm not saying at all that everyone has all sorts of tell tale signs of illness, I don't want everyone to be paranoid that they're displaying flags. It's just something I noticed and I'm curious (and a little self-conscious) that I might display the flags or mannerisms or whatever that I noticed.
