My daughter, an unmedicated bipolar, moved out on her own. She went to a friend's house to stay the night. They had an argument, so she went for a walk...and got lost. She wound up at our house at a quarter to 1 am. She was scared, and I comforted her, fed her, and eventually drove her back.
Her friend got married today. I was a witness which was cool. But she calls me about 45 minutes before the wedding. The people she had been living with locked the house up...so she had nothing to wear. We don't wear the same size and I was 25 miles away, on the way to the wedding with a friend. So my friend and I gobble down lunch and go pick up a dress we hope will fit from the nearest store. Goodwill was the only thing around, but the dress was cute. She changes, and the ceremony happens. All well and good.
Then she asks me to pick up the cake for the reception, which she ordered from a church mom yesterday. I had to let the other kids in the house, so I had to make an extra trip for the cake...which she had not paid for!
So I am out the money for the dress, the money for the cake, and any patience I might have had left for her. The reception has lost its appeal because she will be there and I am still really, really mad!
Her lack of planning (and cash) should not be my problem. And she keeps hinting for a phone card. Another $50. I am just not gonna do it. She was too grown to stay home and abide by the rules, she needs to start dealing with life on her own.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

My rule of thumb when deciding what is helping and what is enabling?
I do not do for people, what they CAN do for themselves.
If you take away her lessons, like phone stuff, keys - your cutting her off at the knee's. LOL I don't learn anything the easy way! I learn by consequences, and I try to make different mistakes in my life!!!!
Your a great mother, doing all the right stuff! She couldn't help herself when she arrived, but your right - the phone etc, she needs to grow up! One of my favorite quotes "It is not a parents responsibility to make their kids happy, it is their responsibility to TEACH them how to make themselves happy".
I can't tell you how much I have covered for my son , including car pmt, insurance, medical, etc.
I am trying to be strong too and cut the cord, let the kid face the consequences of bad choices. Hang in there, you can do it!!
Heck I think we all like to have people to lean on at times and our mom is our mom at any age however I agree that her learning some good life lessons is in her best interest and will help her to be a more responsible adult... And this will help her..
No is every bit as important as yes is
Big deep breath and a hug for you...xo
what are your laws and true purpose of your laws and law benefits who within their life time, sigh.
I will always be solid rock for my independent son's to lean on when needed.
How come she not under care of P-Dr, n on p-meds, hum
If she has someone to financial support her for 1 to 3 yrs. she could apply for SSDI and obtain atty if needed.
She could also get Medicaid.
with street address and rent recite she could get food assistance. she could also get state r charity housing assistance.
She can also obtain mental health care at State funded mental health center.service fee is based on person income. even if person owns nothing and has no income, the state center can not refuse treatment.
the center can also assist their clients w getting on to medication assistance program. aw these are just a few things that we assist our children with , when n if needed.
If needed I would let cake maker in church and other people in church that do crafts, to get their money u front.
Oh ya Salvation Army office may provide clothing voucher.
I think that we all should have basics.
Brown navy black off white shoes. same w outfits.we also should have 2 dressy but casual dress's.
I assume the bride Mother paid for cake. repaid you. r did they take advantage of you by way of your daughter. do her so call friends let her hang out because they can use her. aw children they keep our eyes open.
Yes, she is hungry you can feed her. Needs a shower go ahead. Wants $50 phone card? Nope.
I can only hope she will come around and realize she needs real help and hopefully sooner than later. Is she not on meds by choice? I don't recall the entire hx.
Sorry this has to be so difficult for you to watch as your child is unraveling in front of you. (((hugs))) Do what you feel comfortable with. Set boundaries for yourself too. Wishing you both the best.
