TRIGGER- The Wall

After the traveling version of the Vietnam memoral wall came through Detroit this past week, I began thinking of one of my life goals. Someday I would like to go to DC and visit the real wall.

I dont think there is any other piece of art in the history of man; pyramids castles, colliseums, buildings, paintings, anything that can touch a soul as eaisly and deeply as that wall of stone. The history of it and the people sacrificed for it may just be fresh in our minds, but I think the real beauty is in its simplicity, Just a wall.

Maybe one work of art, a picture of it... the businessman leaning against the wall with his hand touching the images of his fallen soilders in the reflection.

Just feeling a little meloncolly today from a summer of stress I guess, so I thought I would share.

The traveling Wall just came through a neighboring town. I drove by and started to cry. I could see the wall with veterans and civilians gathered around.

I wish i could have stopped, but I am working my way out of a depression right now and decided not to stop.

I get very moved by things like this and have a son joining the Navy. Low emotional pain threshold right now.

Been there a few times, and to the Arlington cemetary. gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. It is a beautiful thing to experience - a real eye opener.

Never been but want to go. Also want to see ground zero. The atom bombs were horrible, but necessary. Not to debate anyone but Japan wasn't giving up. Truman did what had to be done. And ended the war. The Japanese brought us into it. They sacrificed their citizens. And you'll note, (knock on wood) another bomb has NEVER been dropped. Thank God.

They dropped two - did you forget Nagasaki? In a war you do not go after innocent civilians. Pearl Harbor was a military base - I have been there too. Totally different things. Trust me you would change your mind when you see pictures of people, children with their skin melting off of them and the rates of cancers around there for years and years as well.. Not to mention hearing the survivors tales of all the horrific events - if they are still alive now.. You should go there - just not around August 6-8.. you would probably not be liked then.

the japanese didn't even HAVE atomic weapons!!! Why would we use that kind of force? Innocent people!!!! That was not combat - that was murder.

But do you get where I'm coming from? No one likes nuclear weapons. But Japan would not surrender. Truman had the first bomb dropped. There's their chance to surrender. They refused. There goes the second bomb. They finally surrendered. The Japanese military was willing to sacrifice their citizens. It's done and over with. Our government did at the time what they had to do. I will take you up, linasmom, on watching that documentary. I'm not an idiot. I know my history. Our government has done many things we may not agree with. Look at Argentina and Chile in the 1970's. See Missing, if you haven't already. An eye opener.
