First I would like to say I'm not doing this to start a fight or re open old wounds. Rather I just want closure on and old issue that has stuck with me the past two weeks.
I just want to say I my self am conflicted. If your confused by now as to what this is about it's the religious thread that was started a while back. There were many hurt feelings over it. I still don't know what happened after I left. I've had more pressing matters to deal with so I couldn't follow up on it.
Why am I bringing this up again now? I'm still upset. Not because we don't agree, but because the thread was moved. This is where I'm conflicted. I fully understand why it was moved but my intent was not to silence people nor ban religion. I believe strongly in freedom of speech for every one. No matter what their views maybe be.
Still I want every one to know I'm trying to see things from another point of view but I just don't agree. I believe I do understand where those who are religious are coming from because I once was just like you! Passionate about my faith! Now I have a different view and some insight on what it is like to be an agnostic that supports the atheist slant on things.
What I want every one to know is my goal isn't to shatter your faith, something I know is very precious to you. Still I can never just keep my big mouth shut even though I read it with the intent to stay quiet. I'm tired of feeling like an intolerant asshole every time I voice myself.
I live right in the bible belt. Religion is a popular topic that comes up constantly. I feel excluded since the only thing I can contribute is an opposing view point that never sits well.
This is one area where I lack clarity on what is right and wrong in this situation. And I think it's an important issue to address. Every one's emotional well being is at stake here and that's why I'm asking!
When does the truth (I know there's debate on which version is true but go with your version of it not mine) supersede emotions? Every ones emotions are important! And I try to maintain as much respect as possible. Still even my emotions can get the better of me. But my feelings are still that this is an important topic to discuss openly.
Is every one going to fight about this? Please don't. I'm conflicted where can I find some kind of balance that doesn't alienate people or start fights or force people to move else where?
Even now I'm worried this will start another war. But I'm tired of worrying over my dilemma. I just want balance, serenity and peace.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I can only speak from my point of view. I, personally am not shaken by an alternate opinion. My faith is just a part of me - not something that can be shattered. It's not something I want to fight about or even debate. It just IS.
I respect your right to your opinion. And I'm sure you won't mind if I pray for you, my friend. MK.
No one can take that away or change it. I personally believe that when someone is forced into thinking that they should go by one creed that there is always conflict. I also believe that no matter what a person has faith in that they should remain open to others faith. Instead of trying to win over numbers.
I also think that in learning and teaching others to remain open minded to the different faiths of the world people will help others flock to the one that suits them best. Of course this is my Utopia that I am speaking of and sadly we don't live there. But we can strive to work to everyday to encourage others to live open minded lives. To understand that there are many faiths and ideals in the world. And they are all worth fighting for....
Meaning that they are true to the person that believes them and we should respect that and the person. Rather than change them. Why would anyone want to change a person just to make them sad and miserable. Because that is what happens.
Well there is my super condensed two cents. I hope this helps someone ^_^
I agree with SunCloud and her quote from Mother Theresa........We are all fruit on the vine and all lend an important aspect to this life.
Having a different "view" is what gives us diversity and we can all learn from one another. I have never had a problem hearing anothers view but know that if I strongly oppose it and the conversation is becoming heated, everyone's best interest is to "agree to disagree" and move on.
While we share many topics here (on the BP board) which brings variety, I have always found that in RL and here Religion and Politics bring heated debate. This is not a "debate" board but a support board. If a CL or DS see's that "support" is not what is being given than a decision to move thread to a more appropriate place is deemed necesary.
If you want to share, it is easy, if you want to debate there are other boards all around DS to do that about religion and politics. I find that discussing or debating religion or politics is NOT conducive to the BP board because there are many people in different stages of this disorder and it can be very upsetting to them.
I hope I have answered your questions and if you have further questions you can message me.
I find that I'm even insulted by those gimmicky church signs, that say things like "Walmart isn't the only saving place in town" and people telling me they'll pray for me, and so on, but really, I think the differences aren't going to change, so tolerance is often the best choice. I'll sometimes reply with my own encouraging words, non-religiously based, but being offended by the issue is pointless in the sense that 1, it only causes bickering, 2, that bickering causes generalizations and stereotyping, and 3, it's something that people will always ALWAYS disagree about.
As a Catholic by birth and other things since only to return to Catholicism. I find it hard to know what I should say to others if I am going to pray for them. Mostly because I don't know what their faith is. That is why I say Pray. I had no idea that could offend a person. Thank you so very much for opening my eyes to that! I really had no idea. So if anyone reads this. Let me say...
If I say that I will pray for you and you do not believe please forgive me. I do not mean to offend, only to help. I am open minded enough about things. So you can let me know how to send out support and positive energy to you. Thanks Again!! ^_^
I am a Christian and I am not going to apologize for it. However doorknob what you said I have heard many times by my husband who has his own set of beliefs, but with the core one being that "Everybody's right and Nobody's wrong." He doesn't agree with religion as an organization, and he has issues with God that are between him and God.
It isn't easy being of any belief because everybody believes they are right and the logical thing is that everybody else is wrong. Do I believe that I am right, why of course I do. Do I think everybody else is wrong, why of course I do. I am not saying this to start a fight but it is human nature to think you are right and if someone doesn't agree with you then unless they have concrete proof that you are wrong (and in some cases that wouldn't matter) then you are going to disagree with them. There is nothing wrong with that, but we have to learn to be respectful and not get upset and in turn become childish about it.
Once we become childish about then everybody's wrong and nobody's right. I agree with Shelly there are certain topics that are generally going to get people's feathers ruffled and in all honesty bring out the 3 year in everybody.
And on the topic of not bring emotion into it...(are you sure you aren't related to my husband? LOL) to me faith is an emotion and if you put faith into something you feel strong enough about to believe it, naturally there is going to be emotion.
I think as long as harsh words are not use to describe one side of the fence or the other and people learn what my husband has been trying to teach me, it is okay to discuss different beliefs but it is not ok to be rude or down right hateful about it.
Just my two cents of course. :)
The original intent of the post was to give quotes that bring you peace or help you deal with the problems faced daily. As a matter of fact the OP didn't even post any quotes from the Holy Bible, so she wasn't looking just for Christian quotes, but any thing that helps people get through the day. Yes people quoted from the Holy Bible, but we also we had quotes from all sorts of people from all walks of life. The post could have continue has it was originally intended but somebody had to through a monkey wrench in there and start to make complete generalizations, yes that were later corrected somewhat, but still took the thread in the opposite direction from its original intention.
I still behind the fact there is nothing wrong with discussing religion in the proper time even sharing conflicting beliefs with each other, however that wasn't the proper time or the proper thread in which to berate or try to make people see they are wrong. It was a time to share something uplifting that might potentially help someone who is going through a hard time.
No you aren't wrong in having your own beliefs or having freedom of speech, but in all honesty you were wrong in the way you exercised that freedom of speech. JMO.
Basically, I won't be offended by the intention of people I don't know wanting to pray for me
That is what I like to hear about and I think it helps others who are struggling to understand how to speak about this subject without offending and in turn arguing about something important like faith/ideals. That is very encouraging to hear Wieder!!!!
I too have have people that I talk to regularly in RL that have a array of different idea and faiths. I love that we can all be open minded with each other about this. In fact I might be strange in this. Although I am a Christian again, I still have people asking me for advice about Wicca. And I tell them everything that I learned and help them with ideas on rituals and whatnot. So there is a way to live and speak about this subject without it be a touchy subject ^_~
Honestly I think it's childish when a fight starts over something being said on the internet. Please don't let that OLD thread bother you. It's done and over with, I know sometimes I can get real tender about something that was in the past but the only way to look at it is, its in the past, so let it go. (Easier said than done).
Your view on spiritual matters is yours, and no one else's. I also live in the Bible belt and it's difficult to avoid any type of religious stuff. There are signs beside the road, people preaching on corners, a church or 4 on every road, ect. And it's annoying. And whats even more annoying is having a fight about religion.
And I'm so sorry that you got upset about a thread I created. I never meant for anyone to fight and bicker ((HUGS))
Why this?
Quakers don't deny the divinity of Christ but say that it is okay to study other texts if you need some extra help.
Personally, I love Jesus Christ, but folks have messed with that Bible so much that I am utterly left in the dust with it..........So, of the top four preferences that present themselves on Beliefnet (thank goodness that they are always the same 4, just in different order each time)...........I choose the Quaker one.
Think of the Quaker as 'reverse Unitarian' or that we are all looking for Jesus but just don't know it.
I will tell you this--I don't force anyone to my views and I express my views but don't try to force them at all.
There is still stuff that doesn't match but I keep going. As for Julia, well, you know what I allowed her to do for two years....She always made me feel like committing suicide. And so it is in part because of her that I don't try to force others with my views.
I apologize for taking so long to respond. I didn't forget about this thread I just couldn't read the results until now there wasn't time.
I just wanted to let every one know I did read it. Thank you to every one who responded.
Sossie I'm sorry you were upset. Your first post was actually pretty good. That second one though I could see wounds were re opened and that wasn't my intent in posting this. I'm sorry for causing you some unneeded additional stress.
