Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Your body can take up to 6 weeks to adjust to a medication. So it may be taking a little longer to get used to it.
Your on a very low dose so it should be short lived. Topamax has a lot of Metabolic effects on the body, so there is an adjustment period. Increasing your potassium (eat a couple extra banana's a day) and increasing your electrolytes (drinking something like low sugar G2 Gatorade) should help.
I've used Topamax for 13 years for a Seizure Disorder, Chronic Migraines and BiPolar and I take 400mg per day. The only side effect I have any more is it wipes my appetite, so I have to make myself eat. I'm at the gym 4 days a week and have no trouble with my fitness routine. I stick to a pretty high protein, no sugar, no carb, clean food diet so that the food I am eating is pure body fuel.
Give it some time to let your body get used to it, it can take a few weeks.
Take care,
Kat
You might talk to your Dr. about stopping the Rozerem and see how you feel, especially if its not working anyway. Your on such a low dose of Topamax, it'd be very unusual for it to be causing your issues at this point.
There are also some Moderate Interaction warnings between these 2 drugs since they have many of the same side effects, they become worse when taking them together.
These are strong meds we take that affect our brain chemistry and neurological function....some of them are going to have some not so nice side effects.
Its why it's really good to learn about your medications when you start taking them, so you can be aware of what potential side effects to look out for.
I read about it that it does cause fatigue, but I wonder if my body will get used to it and the fatigue will go away?
I searched through every Medical Database I have and found 3 obscure references to it being used for Insomnia in a couple of small Journal's that I've never heard of, without closed research data that there was success.
It has quite a few side effects, the main ones being: trouble sleeping, restlessness, fatigue, anxiety, nausea, diarrhea, joint/muscle pain and headaches.
Its chemistry and pharmacology don't support it working for Insomnia as it works on a part of the brain and receptors that have nothing to do with sleep.
So ya got me on this one. I guess if it works, yay! But I'm dumbfounded why you'd be prescribed this med for sleep. I hope you're not on any narcotics...because they won't work. Do Not drink Alcohol while taking this, because you'll most likely become very ill.
Take care,
Kat
Hope your well.
