May I say as a Brit your government is doing a better job than mine. 30% cuts across the board disability (including mine) cut tax rises indirect and direct. 10% unemployment million young people in that. It is pretty black here too. Best of luck. Just so you know you are not alone.

God knows there's a lot of room for improvement in all the areas you mention, but it's only the way that this economy impacts me personally that has me depressed!!!!

I know this is lame but I try not to think about it as it gets me too agitated and weirded out. That is a total copout it's true but as someone who was recently unemployed it hit too close to home to think about all the problems with the economy.

Yes and no..... it could be better but it could be worse.... it could be Egypt or Ethiopia or any number of other countries. As frustrated as I get when I see extremists gaining power it is still (for the time being) a great place to live.

I agree with Divine Silence; it could be a lot worse. We still have a relatively high standard of living. The foreclosure thing is really disturbing but we still outpace many countries. We are actually quite blessed. Of course it's easy for me to say that since I don't live in Detroit or another trouble-plagued city.

Yes, I could be depressed about it - and sometimes, I Am. But as DivineSilence said, we could be in an uprising as Egypt. We could be oppressed like other parts of the eastern world. We could be a Lot more controlled, like China.

And don't worry - if there is even a Grain of truth in Time Magazine's predictions, our country will be the first to create and make use of Cyborg-type life by 2045 - so we won't have to worry about education, haha.

Not really depressed. But, the status of the whole world worries me sometimes. I was evaluated once on what my subconscious craves. It craves peace -- not only for myself, but for everyone. Well, yeah, that is what my conscious craves, too. MK

yes, it depresses me...i am unemployed, uninsured, and homeless but for a good friend whose patience is wearing out (i think) and i can get no help...i want people to rise up and demand changes in our government and how it distributes its money. i can't get disability because i was unable to work for 5 of the last 10 year, and living on SSI is a joke. my state will not provide me with health care unless the feds say i am disabled. the hole just keeps getting deeper and i feel that i will soon be a statistic.

education? what's that. our kids can't read, do basic math, write a cohesive sentence, or write their names in cursive. however, they can play video games, text, and use their phones for all kinds of neat things.

we have been and are spending a fortune in dollars and bodies on two unwinnable wars. the first is the war on drugs. we should legalize marijuana and sell it like cigarettes. the taxes would pay for some needed services. the second is the afghanistan fiasco...we never should have gone over there, we knew it was unwinnable due to the natives, the terrain, and pakistan. for christ's sake the taliban are fighting us with our own weapons that we gave them.

yeah, i am pissed off and depressed. i still love america, but i don't like it very much right now.
