Hanna, that's awful. I couldn't marry a man like that. My husband checks me into the hospital or makes me call my tdoc when I'm like that. The tdoc often makes the decision as to whether or not I need to go to the ER.

No, there's not even a single plan for us to get married...and I won't start making any plans if he's going to be like this. I'm not saying that I'm going to be suicidal, but it could happen, it's happened before and it could happen again. Do I really want to spend the rest of my life with someone that I have to hide how I'm feeling?

I attempted to talk to him about it last night....that's how this all came about. I tried to describe BP a little better, make it a little clearer and suicidal thoughts came up I told him that it has happened in the past, and it could happen again and he told me to "let him know...etc, etc"

Yes, and I agree with everyone else talk to him when he isn't escalated. Make sure he's nice and calm and not all wrecked from work and in a bad mood and ready for a fight. Do it when it's really a good time to talk when he's capable of listening and then have the conversation.

I would definitely be rethinking this relationship but that's just me. You have to decide what is best for you. ((((HUGS)))) I'm really sorry he said that. I said that to one of my 'friends' once (that I was suicidal) and they couldn't handle it either. I wish you the best.

It was a calm conversation until I brought that up. There wouldn't have been a better time to bring anything up. Sunday, no work, after the kids went to bed...I'll talk to him again, if you all really think that's what I should do, but I really don't think that it'll get any better.

Hanna, I think people are right about talking again. At least that way you can flush out the issue and make a good decision. I really couldn't spend the rest of my life with someone who couldn't support me in my darkest time. Perhaps, it was just too much for him to handle at the time and he will rethink it.

maybe its because he is closed minded about the whole idea because he has never had to deal with someone who is suicidle before. people tend to judge situations they know nothing about. my ex husband wasnt very understanding about too many things. you are going to have to draw the line and fight fire with fire. you need to tell him that if thats the case then you do not want to be with someone whos doesnt care to understand and give him the silent treatment for a while. i do that to my boyfriend and he caves. men cant stand it when you are avoiding them. just try that and see if it works. does for me every time

Sounds like you guys might benefit from some counseling around this topic; how you move forward together as a couple & deal constructively with any BP blips that arise, without recrimination etc

Hi Hanna... I am posting here, to you, to give you support, but I really have no idea what to say............. my feeling however, re this thread and the others you have posted is this, your bf/ fiance seems walled off from you.

As I was not sitting w/ both of you I cannot know just what the tone/ mood of the conversation was. Do you think your bf is scared, confused, selfish, what? I would talk w/ him again, but please remember to protect yourself, that is, if you can. No one can fully understand suicidal ideation or suicide itself, but a callous disregard/ being shut off from someone you love will add to your burden.

And this, altho cliche... Love builds, it does not cut and run.
