By no means, I find it wonderful now that we have a crisis board for people to display their cries for help. But now that we have one for people to post their Humor, fun and games, and off topic stuff, really whats left for the general discussion? How many times can we post that lithium makes me groggy or that I lack a sex drive, or that I have too much of one? And now that I think of it, what is the topic that we are allegedly off of when post scrutinized material on the main board?
-A side note, this rambling post is actually suppose to be viewed as satirical and ironic, not an actual rant :D Although now that I think of it, does that mean that this post is off topic and should be bumped to humor? Also, what is off topic anyway.......

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

disingenuous to suggest there are 'less crisis' around
the hard stuff is part of the overall BP experience & needn't be ushered out of sight (how I see it) to protect sensitive eyes or whatever the reasoning is. Bp isn't neatly segmented ...it felt more real when diverse topics were thrown together on board...& I do think people made effort to give care where needed.
It does 'rip the guts' out as BPeeagogo put it so well
The amount of admin & handholding...I always thought this board handled things quite well..not perfectly, true...with less intervention.
Crisis as in suicide attempts. They were hitting two or three a night on the board. That has reduced, that's what I meant by there being less crisis.
There were a number of people that found those posts triggering and were avoiding BP.
They have hardly been tidied up..they are still there.
If people choose not to use it, that's fine.
It was said earlier there are hardly any Crisis posts there..so that seems to argue against it "ripping the heart out" of BP?
In the future, and this is the last time I'm saying it..things will be less divided than they were going back a month or so. The crisis board was one addition made to tide us over.
BP community is diverse. Whatever we do there will be those that disagree. What we are trying to do is communicate to DS Management the balance of the requirement from the community and then push DS Management to deliver that.
No Lou2, what I said was that it was how I was measuring crisis, I thought I made that clear in the last post, seeing as I was picked up for saying that the level of crisis had reduced..I had to then explain it was from the perspective of suicide notes on DS. We were then trying to make DS a better place for all members.
Final thought you seemed to support the idea when you posted "nice one Curious " on one of the first Crisis centre posts. I took that as support for the idea. I appreciate you may have changed your position on the idea but maybe give it a bit more time?
So far feedback has been supportive of the idea, but let it bed in?
I think Beepee made some very valid points though
& having watched the way the Depression board crisis center devolved..I dunno.
I was just airing my reservations..& preference.
one. the crisis board was implemented right AFTER a very touchy time of the year, namely the week leading up to mother's day and the one following. if you want a serious example of how hairy it gets out there in RL during that time period as far as pwards filling up to the brim and staff placing the blame squarely on that holiday, i would be happy to describe in detail my very personal experience regarding that matter as well as the professional opinions i was offered along my odyssey. so. it's a no brainer that crises started to drop off pretty much right when the board was introduced.
two. there has been a lot of negative talk on the main board about posting not only your direct cry for suicidal help there, but also about suicide in general...ideations...past experiences...even just in passing, it seems, it has been branded a taboo topic...which leads me to...
three...the adjunct boards get less traffic than the main boards. everyone knows this. and the CLs are not always online. how much confidence does someone who is suicidal now have in coming to our ds bp board? the main board is increasingly becoming seriously off limits, and i strongly believe (anyone else?) that there is a definite lack of confidence in whether one will be responded to (and how soon, and with what kind of turn out) on an adjunct board...which brings me to...
four...perhaps a further drop in crises is not altogether an actual drop in crises, but a combination of three factors: a) the passing of the mother's day holliday, b) hostility towards these kinds of topics on the main board, and c) a lack of confidence in what kind of response one will get on an adjunct board.
as for "[communicating] to DS Management the balance of the requirement from the community and then push DS Management to deliver that..." i'm just wondering...where did all these balanced requirements come from in the first place...?
i know my response has only been reactionary...because nobody asked me in the first place how i thought things were working or how they should work...so. yes. i disagree.
what i want to know is how many agree and how were they selected to put forth the balance of their requirements in the first place...?
and yes, yes, we can apparently change things if we want...but who are 'we' right now...?
and most importantly...will 'we' still be a community after everyone does all their selecting and segregating and so on with this choosing of topics, not to mention the confusion of where to post topics...
if somebody wants a community that doesn't use the S word or play games with each other on odd topics...there are plenty out there.
i've been on them and found them sorely lacking in the supportive AND fun community we have been given the chance to build here.
awwww, hell.
doesn't anyone else see this slipping away...?
time for another klon, i guess. then i won't give a good godd*mn.
still know you're trying to do the good thing, curious.
xox.
Keep it real.
" And that's all I got to say about that "

Ok I'll drop the political speak...btw I find keeping it real the absolute worst corporate slogan, but still, we are all different..
Keeping it real was about reacting to what was going on and acting on it. People saying they were avoiding DS because of the suicide posts. People posting things like "stop whining" when someone dared post something on the main board. Long involved posts about why people should not post such things on the general board. The idea of the crisis board was raised several times and appeared to get support..actually I can't remember any dissenters..but by all means go back over those threads and count, analyse, review and let us know.
Summing all of that together, setting up a crisis board seemed like a good idea at that time.
so..to answer the points....
1. I looked at the people threatening suicide..it didn't seem to be down to Mother's day when you looked at the detail (most gave reasons and they were specific)
2. yes. And if there was a spate of such postings again there would be a negative reaction again. That's because it's a reaction.
3. when the great day comes crisis boards will/won't be visible to all. Paradox huh? When we see it I'll be able to explain it better. This is a short term answer.
4. Covered in 1.
Back to keeping it real. We were in crisis. We did something. We can look at it again and make changes. Let us know.
Where did the balanced view come from? It came from those people that expressed an opinion at the time. Go back over the threads and you will see that.
Lets see what the future brings.
hahahaahhhahahaha. yeah. door on the rear and whatnot...
::sigh::
i guess we'll all hafta give it a whirl. or a whack. or whatever.
's long as i can pout about it for some amount of time...
i suppose i'm good.
and now i think we should all shimmy shimmy segue...
over to polarbare's AMAZING post!!
