Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

By no means, I find it wonderful now that we have a crisis board for people to display their cries for help. But now that we have one for people to post their Humor, fun and games, and off topic stuff, really whats left for the general discussion? How many times can we post that lithium makes me groggy or that I lack a sex drive, or that I have too much of one? And now that I think of it, what is the topic that we are allegedly off of when post scrutinized material on the main board?
-A side note, this rambling post is actually suppose to be viewed as satirical and ironic, not an actual rant :D Although now that I think of it, does that mean that this post is off topic and should be bumped to humor? Also, what is off topic anyway.......

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

(and no, it didn't help)

soooo the crisis board has been up for just over a week now, and if i am seeing things correctly, this is the story:
a) in just over 7 days it hasn't gone beyond one page
b) of 19 total topics, 5 are administrative
c) which leaves only 14 actual crisis topics
d) the average # of replies to a crisis topic is about 7
e) there seems to be confusion as to what is a crisis see topic below*

anyway. running high on obsessive fumes lately, i decided to be a total lameass tonight and choose a period of time not related to mother's day to compare notes just on the numbers related to the crisis board. i chose 4.24 - 4.30, another 7 day period...
however, working backwards from 4.30 (as that's how the interface works) i actually only had the stamina to get to the end of 4.28, which made for a 3 day sample period in the middle of a week (tues-thurs)...
and already...being pretty darn militant about which posts were a crisis...in only 3 days compared to 7, i'd found 20 posts (that's +6 posts in -4 days compared to the crisis board)...and the average # of replies to the posts was about 11 (+4 replies on average compared to the crisis board)...
and that's not even over a weekend...which i would assume would be more active...but which i just can't force my eyes and fingers into service to figure out just now ::wink::
now. i know this is not especially scientific. but perhaps...it will get you thinking...? that maybe some 'real' numbers could be run?
because my gut tells me that sidelining crisis posts really rips the guts out of what we do here.
i know there are people who would like to ignore that that's a lot of what we do here. it brings them down.
and some people are rude to the posters...
and i know that there are a lot of people it truly triggers.
but i think there are other, better ways to deal with that...some of them starting with personal restraint in what they choose to read...and/or flagging the post as a trigger in the first place (maybe this could even be a 'feature'?)...and CLs getting involved (or other members) if people are rude to the people posting who are in crisis...

okee doke. so. in the end i guess ds is going to do whatever the fck they are going to do.
so now i'm going to go sit on my tiny deck and watch the sun come up and then do a little painting. fckit.
luvs, curious.
For now, I think the crisis board is a very good choice if we are to have any subcategory. The others, I have NO idea why we would seperate them. We have bipolar disorder and isnt the whole purpose to find support for our jumbled thoughts? Whether that be fun, sadness, ranting etc. I think we might might we will loose some to the confusion of searching for which area they need to be in and when.
Like Fish said, it is a work in progress and our concerns and comments most likely help with the decision making in the process.
I even loose text lately..........was suppose to read.........I think we might even loose some people to the confusion of searching for which area they need to be in and when.
bye the bye, hey chuggs
I was thinking at one point of suggesting we merge fun & games, off topic and venting together.
However the proposals which DS are working on means it works differently if I've understood it correctly, this will give people a lot more control, they can see everything in one go, or everything minus crisis stuff, or just particular categories.
It's a little way off but in the meantime we've added one more category in response to the boards needs.
It's never going to be perfect, one person's crisis is anothers minor issue. It probably means less cries for help will go into venting (and not be seen) or on the main board. It won't be perfect but people will get to know after a while.
On the "there's not much activity"..isn't that a good thing? Less crisises? As long as postings there are replied to, isn't that ok? If half of our postings went there I could understand the view it's ripping the heart out of the community, but it's not. It's true that there are fewer replies, but again the original posters are coming in and saying thanks so maybe the threads have served their purpose?
Anyway, just as nothing is perfect, nothing is fixed either. Things will evolve...if people don't like things we can work with DS about changing them.
