Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Knowledge is power as the saying goes
There are many medications/cocktails that people take with bipolar disorder... Hopefully you've been referred to a psychiatrist??... They are experts in psych medication
The best advise I can give you is acceptance..... If you have the disorder
It will take some time so try and be patient a psychiatrist will help you to find stability and we do have a treatable disorder.... Big hug.....xo
There are way too many medications and combinations to really go over. There are mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics, anxiety meds, antidepressants, sleep meds, etc. It really is best to speak to a psychiatrist as Jan said about these things.
I would also see a therapist. For me, skills based therapy is what works. Right now, I see someone who specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or DBT for short. My psychiatrist doesn't do therapy. I have seen a psychologist in the past, but now I see a social worker.
Knowledge is power as Jan also said. I read a lot on my illness. I liked a book by Kay Redfield Jamison called An Unquiet Mind and there was another more clinical book called Bipolar Disorder: A Guide for Patients and Families by Dr. Frank Mondimore. By the way, I was once told a diagnosis doesn't change who you are, but it does dictate how you are treated medically so you can get the help you truly need or something to that effect.
I am seeing a therapist. I guess time will tell what meds and such I have to take. Good to know y'all. ✌️
There is a lot to take in with a new diagnosis...
Learn all you can about BP and figure out where you for in...
Meds are a piece of the BP pie not the whole pie. Sleep, nutrition, and exercise are also worth paying attention to...
Good luck on the journey....
