Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Ok, this is going to be a long rant. My parents divorced when I was 11 and my dad raised me. Both parents were very abusive to me and hostile towards each other (with me caught in the middle) till they died five years ago.
When I was 18 my dad married my stepmom. I lived at home with them till I was 22 while I was putting myself through college - I couldn't stand living with my dad or her anymore.
My stepmom is 75 now. I've tried to maintain a relationship with her even after my dad has passed but I honestly don't know why. She has never liked me. Over the years she has always made passive aggressive comments towards me. For instance when I was 40, I became a Big Sister in the United Way Program and she said "You finally turned into a decent person" wtf. I'm a Christian. I've done volunteer work my whole life. Then shortly after, when I had my first bipolar psychotic break she was telling everyone I was the Prodigal daughter who was living in sin and had turned away from God. Also, when I got on Bipolar meds and gained weight she constantly harped on me about how fat I was till I got in a fight with her about how hurtful she was being and she said " I'm sorry. I'll try to keep my big mouth shut." Anyways, it's been stuff like that my whole life.
Today, I was telling her that my cat may need dental surgery due to chronic stomatitis (autoimmune problem with teeth) and she goes "Don't you think it's time to put her to sleep?" Geesh, my kitties are the only things that have kept me from attempting suicide at times. (Note, my step mom's first husband left her partly because she let his favorite horse die when he was out of town.)
So I sit here and go why do I bother? She's not a warm person. She always says she's praying for me but I don't want a person like her to pray for me. Am I staying in this for the inheritance? My dad was very wealthy, but she's spending all his money on her kids/grandkids buying vacations/houses/etc.
Also she treats my brother like crap now that Dad has passed even though he goes out of his way to help her around her 60 acre place.
What do I do?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Keep sorting, MMP. Your own answers are in there. Gentle support and validation while you sort.
Relationships are never easy....but they are worthwhile...sometimes the longer you know someone the better....
Love yourself hon this is going to take sometime....
By the way, the "wtf" next to "I'm a Christian" made me squirt water out my nose. Not judging, just seems contrary to the doctrine and I found it funny.
