It's a learning process, much like learning a new language is. It's great to have a "teacher" doc, therapist, and people you trust to watch your behavior. Carefully scrutinize your moods - often.
Look back on your episodes and see if you can find those clues as to what you were feeling before you got sick.
You can get a handle on this as you can learn anything else with effort. Start your homework and you will continue to move up and learn.
Sorry for all the school analogy, but that's my perspective on it.
