I had a really tough day yesterday. My dad was in SEVERE PAIN. I felt so bad for him. I wanted to break down crying but I didn’t. I just kept telling him he could do it!!!  I told him the pain peaks 5-8 days after the surgery. All I could do is rub his back and tell he is going to be ok. It was very hard to see.

TC40, I am so sorry that you have to see your dad in such pain. You are an awesome child to your dad for being there for him, to put your own feelings aside so that he has you by his side. You should be proud of that. Not everyone is capable of being that strong or compassionate. He needs you, and you're there for him. It's a beautiful thing for your dad to know that. I am sorry that you find yourself in this situation. It is important that you take care of yourself as well, and if you need to talk or vent, this is a great place to be.

Ya done good, TC. I believe it is harder to watch a loved one suffer than to go through the suffering, myself. At least I get the good drugs to help me sleep better when the suffering is mine.

And ya done even better coming here to get emotional support for yourself. Nobody gets taken care of if the caregiver goes under. Take extra good care of you.

I am 2 hours from my dad, so I am not actually his caregiver. I just went to visit. His wife is taking care of him really well. it was just very awful watching it when I was there.

It doesn’t help that I am in really bad pain myself due to my back/leg pain.
