Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I've only recently discovered Star Wars but I have had a lot of admiration and respect for Carrie Fisher. Up until the last few months or so I think I knew her much better for her struggles with bipolar and alcoholism to which I can very much relate rather than knowing her as Princess Leia. I love her as Princess Leia now and especially as I have watched the movies recently I see a lot of myself in that particular character. Today however as I received the news of her passing and shared that with my friends, especially Michael in particular it gave me an opportunity to share something with Michael that I don't think I have ever shared quite that way. He is aware that I go to therapy I talk about it regularly and I think he knows that I take medication but I don't know that I've ever actually admitted that I was diagnosed bipolar and today when I talked about Carrie Fisher I said that I've always felt I could relate to her because I too am bipolar and an alcoholic! As beloved as the character Princess Leia is to me now I think when I watch Carrie Fisher I see those struggles I see what it's like to live every day with bipolar. I am grateful for people like Carrie Fisher and Patty Duke who raised an awareness and understanding of bipolar disorder that allows those of us living with it today to hold our heads high. RIP Princess Leia! ❤️

I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I saw her one woman play " Wishful Drinking" thought was wonderful....
It took guts for her to unhook from addiction and the ravages of BP but she did it! She lived a good life her legacy was one of finding sanity in the middle of Hollywood....
If she could do it, amidst all that insanity I'm hoping each one of us can find our way....
