Question: Do people prefer an unmedicated BiPolar?

This question came up to me during my journal entry today. I have been on a new supplement that seems to be keeping me stable without fogging my brain. An interesting side effect has been that my friends are unhappy about my new emotional reactions to stressful situations. Apparently they are used to my Mania reactions ("Oh, who cares, whatever!"or "Oh my God I'll kill them") find this new, reasonably pissed-off person unacceptable.

Anyone else ever had this happen? People prefer the Manic you to the stable, more-like-everyone-else you?

to me it's like when someone is a drunk.

sometimes friends really like the funny drunk. The families usually hate it.

just like some "friends" drop the drunk when they get sober.

I'm sure that some people preferred me when I was up but those that mattered didn't.

No, I can't say I experienced that. Most of my friends and family were sick to death of my mood swings. So they were happy when I became stable.

My family likes me much better on my meds. They find manic me to be too high strung.

my family yotally cut me off when i said u won't take their shit any more. i feel - people expect things to stay the same

The med combo I'm on right now is preferred. Family complained when I was on too many meds, but now I seem to have a handle on things. Having a handle on things is much much preferred to the alternative.

Thanks for all the replies. I too prefer me on meds (although yeah, sometimes mania can be a blast - but not worth the exchange). I guess you're right, Irishwriter, people like things to stay the same. My family is happy, I guess, but maybe I need some new friends.

Not on any meds, just taking supplements, eating healthy and doing a lot of exercise. Newly diagnosed and so far so good. The exercise is the biggest factor I think in helping me to regulate things
